part of the acceptance speech he's set to deliver tomorrow night this evening the gop wraps up the roll call of the states formally nominate him also hear from bush's vice presidential running mate dick cheney for the latest what's the commanding a lot of the first union center believing can't really name ranch supply seconds in anaheim bless america here interest unions and tonight is the night the republicans get down to the business of the political convention nominating her vice president dick cheney and for president of the united george w bush throughout the day today there has been concern expressed by delegates about news that former president gerald ford had suffered a stroke reports tonight are that he's doing better although he will remain hospitalized for the next several days my colleague nj and news senior political correspondent michael aron joins me now michael has been out and about today following the bush the strategy that's right and the bush campaign is trying to broaden the republican party's appeal is reaching out to people who are sick of negative politics a
positive bush was on display this morning when he arrived in philadelphia says pushes at the strains of yankee doodle bush and his wife stuck on to philadelphia ground was one of four party leaders asked by the bush campaign to replace him to be nominated with colonial soldiers arrayed everywhere bush greeted supporters and the benjamin franklin figure for some brief remarks it was the states in cherry
hill the bush campaign sent surrogates like governor of virginia to rally the new jersey delegation at its hotel under the matter is that we are expressing republicanism and then ideas and concerns of people in the united states for better than ever ads or doing that's why we're running the polls why we have a commanding lead in the electoral college of law in all states including in new jersey a fiscally conservative kentucky congresswoman and then the culture of spending in washington is going to change that has changed that taxes can't harm republican congressman so many anti americanism in the world whereas bush is trying to be an inspirational leader talks optimistically represents a positive and upbeat front line and partisan bickering in washington seems to be part of what he's trying to do now is very much a part of what he's doing acts he understands from
having been a governor that you have to bring both sides together and witnesses you can solve tough problems when partisans are quick to pounce on a vote as ammunition for the next election which understands that bickering in washington i don't think anything's possible and we've seen what george bush was able to do in texas he had a democrat legislature he was able to bring it together and he was able to work with them successfully what issues medicare social security you know there's been a fear factor attached to them whenever somebody has gone to try to address them improve or who are some of the deficiencies in those systems which need to be done and so i'm hopeful that it can avoid that i think the campaign the bush campaign today as
a very great attempts to avoid that forced the thai politics every time i've been with him from when i first met him in january of ninety nine he exudes the government is important and what we have to do is accomplishing the government and the partisan stuff all in this or any president and partisan bickering i think they can create an environment that would reduce the level of partisanship smile the leadership of a president can go all the way towards setting a tenor for the discussions in congress but beyond that there's no magic straws available hours to holy eradicate that kind of behavior in a bush washington dick armey tamburri trent lott us army i believe that you will see them work together with an administration that is committed to bring everybody to the table one hour i'm
talking about we hear it a lot i don't think so as i can i go out and tell us what the campaign ad during the democratic convention so i'm looking forward to the opportunity to continue to screen we repeated it on television or two or three days an article warren it's not the baby
oil president united states evading at the moment certainly common passion of yourself being a commentator on television is that something that i mean i remember when we don't start handing out the goodies to actually you know look at the board when the country feels you know he really would be a hard decision as the libyan government
and you get to hear about it so many different things not just really get a housing or the environment or any one particular thing you get to work on programs to help people in such a very different ways of be hard pressed to say what i'd like for this convention was to showcase new jersey
