good evening a statewide coalition of pro choice religious groups took on the catholic church today in trenton the religious coalition for abortion rights is challenging new jersey's catholic bishops for condemning abortion scott money act reports we respect the catholic church's write to advise its followers that it uses but we will not tolerate any attempt to impose the doctrines of one face on all others the new jersey religious coalition for abortion rights represents members of nearly every faith christians and jews lutherans presbyterians and more their religions are different but they share the same pro choice beliefs and say they're angered by the catholic church's condemnation of abortion because of the implication that anyone from any faith supporting a woman's right to choose and more they are certainly entitled to speak to their own people as the bible to mandate this to two people of faith as the only option in response to this situation is not something that the rest
of the steelers viable members of the coalition who oppose the catholic bishops condemnation of abortion say there are times when having an abortion can be a moral and responsible action to abortion is not nice my wife and i went through an abortion we do not think it is a wonderful experience but it is many times the right choice and many times the moral choice bishop james mchugh camden diocese says the coalition is inaccurate claiming they have popular support of the religious community leaders enact right across the board religious people generally have very very cautious attitudes towards abortion not only catholics but many religious churchgoing people the coalition is also opposing a bill in the new jersey senate that would require miners to notify their parents before having an abortion as a person of healing and relationships and the light is currently in the senate in
danger of coalition leaders say incestuous relationship stemming from child abuse could put miners at risk if they notify their parents the bill is expected to be voted on until after the november election it's not only a new jersey network news for months of wearing and waiting of come to a tragic end for the family of the missing sussex county woman a hunter found a badly decomposed body of lisa mcbride over the weekend near the delaware water gap the search is now on for her murderer melinda morton has that story pollsters carrying the face of twenty seven year old lisa mcbride offering a reward for safe return or distributed throughout the state and country in a nationwide search to find her those efforts tragedy over the weekend when their skeletal remains were found in a lot of russian area near the thin mints very very thin sandstone ledge or hiking here found a badly decomposed body about forty yards off the roadway authorities say the condition of the remains has made the task of trying to determine how lisa was killed a difficult one because of the for the moment
it's pending further review by the county medical examiner's office and frankly because of the extent of exposure i don't anticipate that will receive any further information in that regard for several days now on a call to the medical examiners report will help reveal not only how the victim might have been murdered but also whether or not she had been sexually assaulted executive secretary had been missing since june twenty third she was last seen going into her burning township home at about two that morning by neighbor police have confirmed reports that the victim had been complaining for several months about a man who had been harassing her in west milford township where she worked at the lakeland state bank despite the intensity of the investigation that we had conducted we were unable to confirm an identity an identity and looking into that now you're still pursuing that obviously authorities are still searching for clues that could mean to her killer a white t shirt worn by the victim the night she disappeared her purse and a personalized unchained still haven't been found anyone with information that might lead
to lisa's murder she called the berlin township police or the sussex county prosecutor believed him or new jersey network news cities don't a boost today for the us senate campaign of republican christie whitman housing secretary jack kemp was in bellville this afternoon campaigning on whitman's behalf of former new york congressman told a crowd of more than a hundred supporters that whitman would be a good choice for us senate because she supports his urban enterprise zone mr wittman and democratic incumbent bill bradley will face off in their second and final televised debate on the senate campaign i will serve as moderator of the debate which will center on foreign policy issues you can see the forum live here on energy and tomorrow night at seven followed by a special hour long edition of new jersey network news at eight on all nj and channels michael chertoff was officially sworn in as the us attorney for the district of new jersey this afternoon i respected federal prosecutor he has been
endorsed by dozens of high ranking law enforcement officials but as merida know i have reports he takes this appointment without the blessing of president bush so chertoff took the oath for his appointed united states attorney for the impact of these leaders and supporters the kind of who's who of the foreign bench and the state's law enforcement community sixteen federal judges support church office appointment as well as several of new jersey's former us attorneys but the one endorsement missing is a significant one the president of the united states without it your thoughts hold on the position is somewhat tenuous as the policy offices at the us attorney's office and the office can function more effectively when it has its problems existed for a long time of us attorney appointment remember tongue really sad for almost two years as an intern and they could never live a political decision to
work to make the point some law enforcement and political insiders say president bush's dragging his feet about supporting turtles appointed because of trade offs lack of political direction they say he's considered to be a kind of a wild card because historically he's failed to respond to political influence and pressure and in fact he agrees that his top law enforcement priorities may be considerably unpopular strong if you were in the us he says the justice department refused to comment on this matter the focus at the white house to re deploy new jersey network news you're around forty people representing the lyme disease coalition of new jersey met with governor floria late this afternoon and while they obtained a promise for a more cool what made in response to the disease there was no pledge of
money to fight a problem that afflicts some ten thousand new jersians as larry steve nagle reports the forty people gathered outside the governor's office with the hope the state would pay more attention to a tiny insect anomaly cripples you can kill deer tick carries lyme disease and a few weeks ago the parents of eleven year old mandy schmidt said it was lyme disease that killed their daughter went downhill says that they want to stop using her arms in the late sixties that line the family blames an initial misdiagnosis and the lack of aggressive treatment for their daughter's death today the lyme disease coalition gave governor florio a list of suggestions combat and lined busy on the major thing is what'll develop a database that down doctors don't have uniform procedures at making determinations as to what they can report in the area of lyme disease that would be a first step that education to be of assistance to us too there's no particular
disease all florio promised a more coordinated response against lyme disease there was no place for additional funds and it is something the coalition says it needs although it afflicts an estimated ten thousand new jersey and there is no line item in the current state health department budget more lyme disease it's inconceivable isn't a dramatic rise in taxes that would have the sheer new jersey that we can come up with some money for instance still mary schmitt but today's meeting was a good beginning i think it's it happens in other news tonight from around the state final autopsy results are expected tomorrow in the weekend death of a toms river boy at a haunted hay ride seventeen year old brian jewel was found dead at the hangman scene of the lakewood hay ride the teenager had been posing as a
hanging victim investigators from the state medical examiner's office visited the site today in an effort to determine the cause of jewels death a court review of the episcopal church has reversed the conviction of jersey city priest george swanson an ecclesiastical court of the diocese of newark had found swanson guilty of knowingly and maliciously making false accusations in a civil suit against bishop john spong swanson has been fighting the new york diocese over the assets of his burned down church in jersey city coming up in bed sick with a look at the day in business and in tonight's special segment a look at the candidates in the state senate race in south jersey bbc news happening or shoot it with your home video camera others know about it by dialing the new jersey network news tip line one eight hundred jersey won the wire fb it's
b it's one of new jersey's most controversy over race is this november the special senate election in the first district to veteran
lawmakers are on the ballot waging war over the florio administration's tax program deborah's our highlights the candidates and the issues and tonight special segment the first is fixated race has turned more into a battle at odds republican incumbent jim cathedral point i gather came to fill senator jim hurley shoes actor hurley was appointed to the casino control commission and democratic assemblyman egg found a schoolteacher and close political ally for l'oreal it's summer and that is one of the premier representatives in the state legislature back with others viewpoints billion dollar tax package saying it will take money for the first time for north jersey and given to south jersey for schools and other needed projects in cape may and cumberland counties meanwhile is running on an anti florio campaign he claimed that he voted against florida's tax plan and will push for a repeal but the question in this race can the republicans take this one based on the growing public outrage against warrior's tax package oregon salmon a popular assemblyman
convince the voters to stay with him on the strategy to challenge a direct attention and focus only off on the tax issue and then focus all his record what he's done in other respects i don't favor or the governor's tax program but i will tell you this i favor a program that goes to major things juan give us a quality education state that we need to devise property tax relief thousand down and was first elected to the assembly in nineteen eighty seven before that he served as mayor of melville and as a crumbling concrete older it's a popular teacher in the cumberland county school system for the past twenty six years yet ironically the new jersey education association did not endorse him think you have to do it in the public interest that special interest sal is quick to point out that he voted against the governor's pay raise his opponent he says voted to increase salaries famines and filthy to it that route fifty five is completed down to the
garden state parkway within ten years and he says he'll see to it that the south jersey gets more money for schools and his opponent calls him a liar and voted against a new five hundred dollars rebate check this chemical in effect next year and voting no against a school the coming into a district still unemployed in january he did not vote in the primary but in late june changed his mind and decided to run for senate salman calls him a decisive and so those interactions that was having and things were taking place through the administration line was and i like to i felt like in the process and have some input as to threaten the state can take the pharaoh an attorney is no stranger to politics he served as state senator from nineteen seventy two to eighty one percent women from nineteen sixty eight to seventy one and taking a county prosecutor for two years and heroes says he wants to increase the transportation app to five hundred million dollars to pay for new construction projects if elected he says he'll push for an audit of
all state agencies he has the backing of the group hands across new jersey that's because the hero says he wants to repeal the governor's tax bracket you're an absolute insult probably acceptance by some analysts that it was a tax that was self destructive but not in cleveland a total of a half a million dollars is being spent on advertising between both candidates much of that advertising for radio spots first hero on edge sellman did senators voted with oreo to transform calls them disposable paper products i'm going to raise sales taxes and raise our income taxes too and something new salman is the city's video campaign messages dora dora know it's i am and i know it's a family i know he's an honest and decent guy and to me there's nothing more important there are no independent polls and alabama still in the midst of all is not fleeing political analysts predict this will be a close race
and i think what will long ultimately on evolve into is on the tax question ever as aaron a jersey network news i'm mona coming up more maneuvering by taj mahal bondholders and oil prices take a lunch kit with the story next it's b did sex with the art of high risk investments in our service of a book or something else a solar isn't off it is an interesting game so long
as you are not a player and wait donald trump in his incorporated the song and a heart for a couple billion to build as you know that guy's a couple cans of money from the banks only places that really almost seven hundred million from players known as bondholders will get drunk bond rates so it's a fourteen percent over the taj can't pay in fact trump wants them to take lower rates nine percent plus more paper for interesting can't pay them and not quite twenty percent when he injures justice says that investors service the bond holders should get fifty percent ownership hold your horses says trump's wealth of cars will pay out as a business in the long run a terrific business just temporarily not paying its debts hold on guys cool draws the refs the bondholders were pushing for majority interest in the times you're not going to take that big a rate cut casino control meanwhile backs off wild players play out the game and then they'll say yes or no or whatever comes on
i'm just any old ad export experts are more some facility my people who in some computer application for the star wars program or software for navy weapon system but all of a sudden hurry up work of integrated systems of a computer sciences corporation computer experts knitting together military command and control system with healthy and forth track and then a good rapport over the world in fact maintain up for this second inventories of aircraft and surprise at bases that we were we got the conference sometime back running away toward completion they say some months off until saddam was saying that his number of our air force was assistant employees believed pronto of november two and he thinks that he oil simply plunged on the figure's boards today which the way things go you know sometimes good saving course down by spraying maybe sooner now is that a way the oil plunged into some stability
here not much volume today but good breadth and the tao did come back from a thirty five point early deficit and next our likely because it was weakening oil prices fisher is plunging a record five dollars and forty one cents a barrel on rumors among other things that saddam hussein says he dreamed that the prophet muhammad told him to pull out of kuwait and iraqi troops are actually have a cylindrical black person will run away then of course no outcome an ebullient so on the sort of hesitate i didn't think you coming up heavy rains take a minute years ago now have the sunny forecast and in sports the giants after six a nosedive their best thanks to that ms bee already get socked with rain tonight and tomorrow actually the rest of the first time that we could sweat
it was an overcast day of the sea views golf resort in atlantic county today unsettled weather means the rain will likely be very heavy at times as for the end of the week another blast of cold air is on its way it's a look at current conditions light rain falling in newark at sixty six there are cars around trenton and atlantic city the rain could be heavy at times tonight temperature is between fifty and sixty degrees state wide awake day ahead tomorrow again heavy at times on that rain in sixteen seventeen more of the same cloudy windy and wet weather likely on wednesday than sixty to seventy degrees with a monitor lights that temperature still celebrating at the meadowlands it's all my sleep jai is now six and all the clubs best art ever at a remarkable twenty nineteen comeback against the cardinals starting quarterback phil simms out with a sprained ankle and size down nineteen ten with five thirty a laugh a backup quarterback john hostettler directing the rally began with
a thirty yard touchdown bye bye the giants were down by two the defense held the office got the ball back jeff hostettler driving for a winning field goal the lionel maine you're always under the goggles twenty two yard line now is up for the giants as the people out and take the winning field coordinator going in i said routing all the time you know the sovereign of other situations south america saw protests over which to heaven hostettler cooley stop the clock with three seconds left let's set the stage for bad boys game winning forty yard field goal of the celebration that ensued and scuffles like that bottles that you know we don't we don't buy easy it was the doubts about your mind and conferences
only born of demonstrated ability to match the only thing every couple and talk about it could say that she can that compliment on to you do it under pressure it's it's it's just something that has worked meanwhile philadelphia's thirteen seven was the washington leaves legal still talking what world leaders but in the division based at two and four but yuan says he was still going to the playoffs but they may need tickets he goes now blaming the officials there were seventy three one heller call for the pedal you're negating where the funniest touchdown pass to fred barnett that was holding the the celebration in the end zone all for not the officials also called byron evans wrote blow to the head and most important stan humphries fifteen yards of the redskins field goal added and nothing made and we're number fourteen wes watkins came onto the field ron unsportsmanlike conduct all your dreams and was one of seven families for seventy arts the eagles on another excuse for not waiting for the money
jobs well in just in a forever but deeper debate and losing a buffalo thirty twenty seven there's typically at sea splitting bills great catch my jet wrote the raw border city of a field goal and a twenty seven twenty four new york the way of the bill's climbed the five in one has put it employed up with jay leno with nineteen seconds left for the touchdown bills did miss an extra point which the jetsons which is to win as responses and a forgettable with college football as both want is a princeton last story about a physical beating to another man with his top forty tunes at syracuse with three touchdowns in each have their quarterback mark macdonald financially three on strike happened over twenty one set halftime we are encouraged don draper chastises the inferno that is an effort as they lost their fourth straight jerry henry says it was a much prettier as harvard twenty three
twenty joe bronson battled back with one of the seven deaths of late in the game they're accountants forty nine yard one would just over eight minutes left by the game actually what triggered crist wants to have a long afternoon with two months what for touchdowns so far the frustration with his poem whatever touchdown to the opera or a kicker steven johnson had to refill those on the day included this route fifty five seconds left from thirty four yards out again with it even so that's a false to two and four overall but more broadly wanted to win the ivy league the last may have just ended all hopes for an ivy league championship at princeton syrian villages a network news so not such a good story for the college's this weekend when the giants have won iowa but it wasn't pretty rare that got the job done that what about phil simms the next week any word against washington bill parcells said today the prognosis is good he'll play against
washington it's not good news for jim pasco of a sense of at the controls redskins big game interested in this week thank you finally tonight recapping our top stories a statewide religious coalition is challenging new jersey's catholic bishops for the combination of abortions saying there are times when abortion is a moral and responsible choice the four month search for a sussex county woman has ended tragically the badly decomposed body of lisa mcbride has been found in a secluded wooded area at the delaware water gap and michael chertoff has been officially sworn in as us attorney for the district of new jersey endorsed by dozens of state law enforcement officials he takes the point but without president bush's blessing that's the news for tonight i can't manahan from all of us here in new jersey network news thank you for being with us will see you tomorrow everyone and it is b fb the
piece be us theaters in hundreds of millions of dollars that was technical reports senator florio said today that for a decade
washington has been shifting its budget responsibilities to the states the latest five hundred billion dollar deficit reduction plan would cost new jersey hundreds of millions of dollars in cutting programs and shifting their costs to the state of washington's idea of belt tightening is training somebody else's boat that's just not acceptable proposed federal budget package would raise taxes on gasoline refined petroleum products tobacco alcoholic beverages and luxury goods would also cut medicare by sixty billion dollars lorio says new jersey's share of that reduction is a hundred and ten million dollars and he isn't worried about other programs funded by federal money the treasury people now are having a hard time making specific determinations but what they do say is that there is a sense to cut fourteen percent of the top forty for the various programs the state benefits from it we don't know what form of an attack will color jerseys two senators and the dean of the congressional delegation robert road this morning i asked them to oppose the
budget and were to renegotiate it aides to senators bradley and wattenberg say the two are reserving a decision on the budget republican congressman the gallo is wrestling with his position i have been overwhelmed by the amount of taxation that's incorporated in the spill and we're dealing with almost a hundred sixty billion dollars in new funds however congressman cologne pain saxon war we need when although smith and rob come up have said they will vote against it i think it's it stays
