Well. You know up there or coming to there's a spot up here near a lot of last year and we've got a real nice bath in this corner you know tend to lay in the same areas day after day and get right where they live. You're going oh yeah you're right. Boy you got it now you got it now.
Fighting fighting. Or letting them know that I'm OK I'm not that are not my thing might be more in your head what you're doing when you're running right by that lower level boy. What's your hand before you put a handle on you know that. The slime off their body and keep getting it back. OK here really is sort of
the water. Sloshing around. That of oil the more. Water will let him go to. The more for their egos. When that final. Cut for nice fish that I have on your lower back in Iran will head back. That that's really why we've got not only we have the fun of catching but you're utilizing the resource you're using Adam for food which is really important and fisherman the best you can. Never hurt. You're going to happen tonight for dinner. OK you're going to grab the shoreline we commend and be careful getting out we don't want any problems. You know you're not hold on and I'm going to give you a. Little while of having a good time is not an i
not a boy. Well I'm Pete Maclean deputy director of the division of Fish Game and Wildlife. You know fishing is the number one outdoor recreation in the United States today and rightly so because it gives you a chance to get outdoors on a nice day like today and enjoy the companionship of a youngster like Kirk. Also fishing is a family type recreational. Everybody can participate from six years of age right on up to 90. Also it's a recreation we can combine with things like camping and picnic fishing is really an inexpensive type of recreation for twenty five or thirty dollars. You can get a rod and reel like this go. Fishing and also available around every town and city in the United States. So what do you say. Go take a kid fishing. Cold water fishing is primarily for trout and salmon. Their range is
dictated by water temperature. And Trout are found from the state of Maine right across the Great Lakes into the Rocky Mountains and also down in the mountainous areas of Virginia. Now trout are a reasonably smart fish. They're hard to catch and you need good equipment. So let's go on today with Stacy. And and Rudy and see how Rudy you just Daisey how to fish for trout in a fast moving tragic dream like we have here today. Now what you will have to do. Put it through. Tyson not. The way I showed you. That's fine. And it's was a top. Flight about six eight inches out or more a little more. That's fine. I just got up to fly down subs just enough to fly up to fly the flag oh my God that's good. Like a problem. Right.
Try not to. See. Now that's good Stacey hold fine now show you how to say. Rios work. Well. See what happens. This bailout was the bailout but you have to do is take the line on your finger. And push the bailout back. Now the bad automatically when you stab reeling in jump back and pick up and wind it around and then I watch and. I'm going to step in here. Just a little way. I'm going to cast it. Maybe there's a fish here. They're very careful very careful and some of these rocks extremely slippery. This is far enough. Here you go.
I step on the other side of you a little bit deeper and their foot Topalov back don't forget that. It's fine. Very slowly. You're been very story in motion a little bit like that. That's good. That's. Fine. Fine. That's the way to do is that now see really you can't throw that line over in there. Once more. I had bring it up to about from the let's see. Where you won the cash to be able to capture. Your water. Boy.
To look. After. Your. Little. Girl. No one to. Bring up. This. Little Guy first already. But I believe him. And by golly you clean a fish and I clean a fish. How about that. Thank you. I'll
show you how you're doing OK. With taking a dive and putting it right on the behind you come right through. Between the thing was my cousin going to work. Yeah right. Yeah and once you have put your thumb in there. Yeah right. I prefer a shoulder shrug more. Right down the center here. You get good law precedence good luck mind you again you take your saw. Remember it's where you have to clean the fish. And we are. Just like a freshman. What. Kind of question mark when he cleans us ration out if you don't like to have. Just give it a rest.
Requital like you want to have a good mayor tonight. Why don't you take that lie you start from there. That's all right don't you think and cut them short on what you don't got to do because your mind was good not washed up at the top there. Yourself to the fire and that's it for free. Right. Just when. You know you don't have to live next door mat dreamer near a good large mouth bass
fishing pond they have fishing. Throughout the United States every major city town and deli had to pawn very similar to this where you'll find bass crappie sunfish all types. However fishing competition is rather keen in these areas so you really know have to know what you're doing and watch Yemen Scott learn some of the finer points of fishing in an urban pond like the one we have right here. Now this one you just take. The button down early so when you're here. Now fortunately I brought the right and the left handed one and you are right handed so this will pass with your right hand turn around that you start flying and it will start running along like bank. That's right. You got the. Very simple real just. Basically holds the line when you crank it will retreat close
to your work it's. Really. Your life. You. Show you how to tie a book on. That way. Float on it or Dobber like we said or whatever you like to call on. Or get ready. So you had a beta. Get ready. But. Now there's this is a pretty important part time to write regardless of how big a fish is away after a proper nod or helping to have a poor not so you can lose your fish because you just pull the knot right out. And through. The back you form a loop like that. Just like. I would take to push this over. I do this between 5 to 7 times to my final. Finer it is the more I rap. And I come back through.
Like that and I bring it back through the southern. That's what they call want to prove. Call them up. Nice and tight. All right. We got the worms right here in this. Cup your cheap fish and just a little bit. I'll take one. He's nice. Siri told him. Yes. This time a slimy looking where. Oh that's right they want her check. You're a lot bigger than they are. Now this hook here has a hold over you see those little barbs on it. That will hold the war along the hook with the last. Word we always. Put on a hook we just slide them right on up the hook. We're going to air on here. High Romney's up. Anywhere from a foot to two foot sometimes depending on the depth of the lake.
Really easy to put on just press this down. Wrap it there this time slide it under there we are with them move it up and down the depth we want. Right now we're ready to fish. Right now that we're all baited up and ready to catch a fish just put it out here in the U.S. where you don't have to try and go together. Just use your wrist. Just put it out there and see what we can catch. Now you take the slack. All right Scott Well we're going to do is keep our eye on the bother and watch you want to get your bait. Are you taking your day you'll see to start pretty good and then you'll set the hook. I'll tell you why because it takes a little
experience to get used to one year. You just keep this is a game of Patience was taken. That's. How you get. Old. OK that's a deal like that. That's a beauty. Now you can take your mother can cook employ others afraid of cleaning fish. Never had that feeling of free will is that right. OK you know we got a duty to take control. You know back fishing or still fishing it down throughout the entire United States you'll find people still fishing along the Mississippi River the great lakes along the Tidal Basin river along almost every major stream a waterway in the country. And today we're still fishing writer Nate the shadow of New York City the Statue of Liberty. You know there's a lot more to still fishing and just baiting a hook and drawing in the water. You must
learn what type of terminal tackle to use and also how to look at the river currents and the streams and recognising areas where you might be successful. It's a lot for watching a father teaching his son a little bit about how to tell fish or bag fish right here in the Hudson River. David we're going to be using two different kinds of they think of as a pyramid. Think it will be right on the bottom in the first group of spearing which will float up there above that. We're going to have a sand were this way we have two chances to catch fish is there one we might catch the fish that are down close to the bottom and we might catch fish that are a little higher up or maybe looking for a nice juicy Sam or the float by. OK that will let you drop it off like just like I showed you before. OK. What the you know what or I didn't hear. Anything for it but I thought of all the jail that much a thumb on the reel. And let that let the let it go down to just to touch the
bottom. Very slow very slow. Fast forward David might be interesting to see these things go on the bottom of the writers on these two things that kind of thing and then just make up another one real quick. While waiting in case we lose that one because sometimes. Rock bottom will get me to make another want to. Teach you how you can make. Very simple to do. It we want to make a. Big fish this isn't very good but for. Kind of fish we might catch off here. You can make this kind of thing so you make you just pass it twice to
see what I'm doing you. Just might be right I think. That's one that's one. Yeah. And then we have to make another one here. So what. Yeah well let's call the surgeons not. Let's let me be frank a doctor. I don't know what they call a certain. We go through twice like this. We tighten that right up. That's really all there is to the Rick. Let's see what else we have in here. What. Snafus probably this time of year. That's what's here. But it could be weeks it could be small striped bass and I think they could be even some bigger striped bass I've seen strolling by here a big striped bass. But my guess is it will probably catch snap of maybe a catfish and we could catch some small school striped bass
and all of which are good. So. It's sort of a quiet kind of fishing but there are important things you have to know about. What would you think is the most important thing you have to know about water in a river. It's moving too right. Bring him out. Morning. Let's see what that is. That's OK. Look at that. What you got there. That's a terrific catfish. Going to put him in the bucket but you can't fish like this. Some spine to make it sting is no. I got it all right here. And if you grab with the rag it's pretty good now how to hold him in my hand here. And I got a pair of pliers in my pocket somewhere and just get that right out of there out of his mouth without turning at Ellison sure how do you. While. We just take in his mouth.
With the pliancy. There we go. And we can put right in the bucket. No problem at all. Now that we have but that ball in the bucket we've got to get a couple more thick never good fish fry are. Well over 65 percent of the population the United States day's drive of the surf or the Gulf Coast. Now the ocean a big place and a plenty of fish in it. But at certain times of the year the fish come of that easy casting gets into the surf. However the cats they say you really have to have the right type of equipment and you have to know how to use it to launch watches for a teacher's job on the proper type of how to cast how to look for fashion and how to fish in the surf. I live. Here. But we have open face real. This is what we generally hear.
And I have a leader here with what they are there for. Well. That you'll see how it works when it gets wet. OK I. Guess you better do a first first. Well. Turning in the face. You. Get your finger like that. Then you flip over. Now you're ready to chaos. OK. You bring your back. And. Your finger. MARTIN OK. OK. Wow. And then you.
Took it away. OK OK. OK. Right now let's look. Back if you. Try that again. I'll take
that. Back. OK. OK. It's. OK.
Bring it. Out right. Now. Yes. First right. This is. The float on the bottom. This is. This.
Snap. Here. Right. Now. Be careful. Now. Here.
Right. Out the back. Right. Now. It's. Like that. All right let's get. Right. Back. Now you want to
find. Your line. Feel a tightness. Right. Oh I can feel it feeling out on the bottom. Yes. Right OK. Then. OK. It's tight. Hard working out there John. Everybody. Passing is probably some. Might hear so much out here today right. What do you think you. Might try to get out of time. OK. Not really great. But we certainly enjoyed having you with us today. We hope you've learned something about fishing but fishing tackle also some basic fishing techniques. Now if you're interested in learning more about fishing and getting out there and actually fishing perhaps you can find a willing adult for
somebody who's an expert on fishing to take you out teach you a little more. Also you can check with your local tackle shop. They're a good source of information when where the fish are biting. However the best way to really learn the fish to get yourself a good rod and reel said just get out there and go fishing. So good luck. Good.
