You know you know you know. You know the ballet corporation gets its casino license. I'm. Here for the mentally retarded and sports the losses keep piling up for the Nets. Princeton and Rutgers. Jersey Michael. Vick. The bag. Officially got its permanent cut today after company officials agreed to cut Chief Executive Officer William out of the operation. The story. Of the ballet people told the Casino Control Commission they were willing to accept the commission's
condition and divest O'Donnell that its controversial founder stocks dividends and interest. That left only one matter to what to do about another valley stockholder Alexander Williams of Belgium Wilma's like O'Donnell is unacceptable to the commission because of his alleged association with organized crime figures. They range been worked out by the Division of Gaming Enforcement and Bally was this to hold a hearing within 60 days on whether Bally can continue to deal with Wilms distributing which supplies arcade game components to Bally. Neither Wilms nor his family would be allowed to influence palace operation in any way and at the end of the contract with Wilms in November 1981 Bally would stop dealing with Wilms distributing. We have agreed. That we. Continue that relationship after. I feel comfortable with. Taking all steps necessary to ensure. That. There was no one left in the company that.
Was going to. Valley is the third corporation to get a permanent casino license to operate in New Jersey. The next one up for a permanent license is the great day Corporation the division of Gaming Enforcement says it should have its report ready on great day. In just a couple of months. In Trenton. I Mariama. So. The Brighton hotel casino meanwhile is fighting financial problems it's the smallest Casino in Atlantic City and it's now on a sturdy program according to sources in the gaming industry. Among the victims of the new Australia's Tara hay are 30 dancers hired for the hotel's a stage production. That show will close tomorrow night in favor of a smaller production and those 30 dancers will be out of work. Right now officials have reportedly been trying to get some loans but high interest rates and small crowds at the casino have provided its fiscal crisis. The suspect in last week's murder of a Port Authority patrolman has been cleared of all charges. Thomas Wilson arrested in South Carolina Christmas Eve for the fatal shooting of Patrolman William
Perry was not even in New Jersey when the crime occurred. The prosecutor says he had every reason to believe he had the right man when South Carolina police arrested Thomas Wilson of Elizabeth Wilson 27 have been positively identified by three eyewitnesses to the murder of Patrolman Perry last Monday in Jersey City's PAB station. All three had selected his picture from among the thousands in police files. So when Allstate alarm was issued describing Wilson as armed and dangerous and warranted a hand scores of South Carolina police officers converged on a Simpsonville housing project home of Wilson's brother in law. Wilson spent Christmas in jail charged with murdering Perry and kidnapping the owner of a. Commandeered just outside the station following the crime. Today said it was all a case of mistaken identity that Wilson was hundreds of miles away from Jersey City when Perry was killed. Thomas. Who has been charged with
kidnapping. Was not the perpetrator. Of the error but he would offer no apologies. The fact that Wilson was cleared promptly after presenting an airtight alibi shows said that the system works. Meanwhile the search continues for the man who repeatedly shot very following an alter cation over his smoking on the path train. At the moment there are no other suspects but. Said he expects to find the real killer. And so. Authorities don't know his name or where he lives but they do. I don't know. What he looks like. And your. Identification by three eyewitnesses. He must Overall says look exactly like Thomas Wilson. County prosecutor's office in Jersey City. I'm Sandra King. Reforms in jury duty will be tested in five counties this spring. It's part of improvement state court officials hope to develop for all counties next year under the plan to be tested in Bergen County and county's court
officials hope to use prospective jurors time more efficiently said one official We want to cut down on the bridge games in the jurors waiting rooms in a full study to be completed next year. Court officials also hope to increase the $5 daily compensation for jury duty. State official said today New Jersey's population increased 2.3 percent in the past decade. That's based on unofficial census totals taken this year. Both the state's largest county and city Essex County in New York dropped in population but those declines are now the subject of a federal lawsuit. In a national survey of anti-Semitic assaults and vandalism New Jersey has ranked second the largest number of incidents. Three hundred and seventy seven were reported in The New York area. Sixty nine were reported in New Jersey. The study compiled by the B'nai B'rith Anti-Defamation League showed the incidents this year were triple those recorded last year. But officials say that may only reflect a better reporting
procedures. The spokesman say educators law enforcement officials and league members will meet next week to discuss the problem and ways to curb it. Gargoyles are strong figurines usually associated with the great cotton Gothic cathedrals of Europe so you may be surprised to see some 500 elaborately carved ornaments on the buildings of Princeton University. But their number is declining as time and the elements exact a toll. Tom Stuart reports. The collegiate Gothic buildings at Princeton I studied with stone collectors. Some of these protests. During the Middle Ages. Are anything but medieval. Offering a satiric at the turn of the century. When they. Take this property and. In that way. A. Caricature of Teddy Roosevelt. With his big stick. Ben Franklin that is like. And then there's this.
One around here for years and years and only at. The. Last few minutes. Were. Something else like. Several missing ornaments and found lots more in bad shape. And the. Last 20 years. Here's. A mate from their falling off. Their. Their perches where the. Mortar if. The jury. Doesn't. Let you. Believe this it would be. You could see where there clearly was some kind of ornamental. Plaque or something that was on days. Of Destruction which appear in their mission. Now. You can see why another graduate here once wrote that some of Princeton's most interesting characters come from a long line of chosen words. The question is how long things will stay that way.
Stone cutters are harder to come by these days and right now Princeton has no problems to repair the damage or replace the missing gargoyles in Princeton I'm Tom Stuart and over the weekend there were these news updates Princeton playhouse so beloved but insolvent. Movie theater was demolished Saturday. The raising as part of redevelopment plans for Palmer Square in the heart of Princeton's downtown area. The Playhouse is the only building to be torn down however the 17 million dollar development project will include no shops restaurants townhouses and expanded parking and looking ahead to gasoline supplies for the new year. The good news is there should be plenty. The bad news predictably will be paying more for us. A dollar fifty a gallon says the head of New Jersey's gasoline retailers. Fog created hazardous driving conditions this morning across the state. At least one flight was canceled at Newark International Airport and a number of minor traffic accidents were attributed to poor visibility. The speed limit was reduced to three to 45 on the New Jersey
Turnpike during the morning rush hour and fog warnings were posted on the Garden State Parkway. And weather officials are saying they'll be more fog tonight. And tomorrow. Meanwhile those same weather officials say the drizzle that accompanied some of that fog across the state did little to help the North's drought said one official today. The water shortage is as critical as ever. Reggie Wells has more in tonight's drought update. New Jersey enters its last week of 1980 it is also entering the 12th week of mandatory water rationing. After three months of state imposed cutbacks most water companies have only been able to reduce consumption by half what the governor had asked for. When compared to the week of September 22nd which was the week before rationing was. The Hackensack water company reduced consumption by fifteen point six percent and its reservoir capacity is now down to twenty five point two percent. The North Jersey just recut water usage eleven point four percent and reservoir levels are thirty one point five percent full Commonwealth water
cut water use by nearly 9 percent and reservoirs are nearly 71 percent full. The Newark water supply cut consumption six point three percent with reservoir levels of twenty nine point nine percent capacity of say valley consumption six point thirty five percent. But Jersey City increased water use last week by nearly 9 percent. And the capacity of its reservoir is now down to thirty one point eight percent. Total consumption for all six water companies last week was three hundred sixty three point nine one million gallons and total reduction by the six companies involved was little more than 12 percent. I'm right where. I am now here is the full weather forecast for the state tonight. We'll have occasional rain patches of some heavy fog. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s. It will be cloudy again tomorrow with a chance of some rain or snow and temperatures will be in the mid 30s and the outlook for Wednesday partly cloudy. Tonight we continue our retrospective of some of our favorite closer looks this year
in Newark. Here's what's going to work us. Last August we took a closer look at a new program then. I thought in that year as in mental institutions. It's called The Crisis Intervention Program. And it's. To make life easier at state mental facilities. Both clients. Instead. Girls and. Members of. The commission. Taking part in the. Crisis recognition prevention and intervention.

Some are. Absent he is a real man made sublime state well under the new treatment approach them. Now. Or. By. Their tendency to become human
services assistant. Eighteen hundred girls and women live on two sprawling campuses. Most came here as children and never leave. And they're here for example. Bennett. It was 70 every 85 year. Times have changed. And the emphasis now is not so much on cost. But. Despite the new treatment oriented approach continues to be marked by conflict. This isn't the real. Pervasive capturing the truly violent incident with our cameras. Too difficult. No matter. What version of hastily assembled. Mro. Janice were. Left here since they.

A man in charge of. It.
Was contracted with the state to run the program. Each. With a special song designed to stress the giving aspect of. M.R. care. What. Now has a master's degree in social work. But he began his career as a janitor and a mental institution. Planning. And.

Now on the New Jersey Senate president visited the class and. She coordinates us training. And was instrumental in its inception. Between. THE UNION. And the Advocate's office and. The services. Know. Right. Now. Thank you. How do you know. You people. Sense a story aired in August. Three hundred. Fifty people have received a crisis intervention training and highlighted projects. Nell Merlino says the results are extremely positive while staff and clients and one by. Cardiff staffers of not having used any physical restraints at all since their training. This positive beginning should spread as the program is implemented at the state schools and hospitals for the retarded.
Thank you Gus. And meanwhile more than a thousand New Jersey national patients will be able to get paying jobs through state programs as the result of a lawsuit Assata last week. The agreement between the public advocates office and the Department of Human Services ends a four and a half year court battle. Patients who volunteer for that program will be working at a variety of jobs and will be paid the prevailing federal minimum wage which is now $3 and 35 cents an hour. No one under the age of 19 will be able to legally buy or drink alcoholic
beverages in New Jersey beginning Friday and state liquor officials are warning tavern and look for store owners that that new law will be strictly enforced. Joseph Lerner director of the state's Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control said violators of the new law will be subject to arrests and fines. And it's time now for sports here's Bill Perry. OK thank you Carol. Well the Nets win again this year. Actually a trick question. The last chance in 1980 comes tomorrow night in Chicago and that's when again this season probably last night last number five in a row 10 of their last 11 and their fourth straight since. Bob McCann and lower right took over as head coach Kansas City wins it want to go to 99 Maurice Lucas who played under my cannon the last time it was a head coach in the 88 with the spirits of St. Louis was sensational last night 39 points and 10 rebounds for Lucas. The 39 points the most he's ever had as a net. But with what's Walker and Cliff Robinson still out in Michael Card going down with a hamstring pull the nets just didn't have it in the final frantic minutes they cut a 16 point lead all the way down to
lead by 2 with 142 left 96 94 but Kansas City scored eight straight points got webmin there and that's only scoring at the buzzer a three pointer by Mike Nolan. So despite a good effort the nets and Bob McKinnon the losers again here is the one that killed a modest person on their offensive boards. Thirty five to birdsong but I'm not discouraged I certainly encouraged because we played it and I think it's a good game. Then. Probably to find shooters in the game and Whitman and. Bob if you get everybody healthy. What's the steam's potential. Well I think if we had everybody healthy we could be close to 500. From there it depends on how well the rookies develop. Management was careful to point out when you took over for Kevin locker that you were the head coach not an interim head coach. But what do you feel you have to do for the remainder of the season to be here next year. I'm not worrying about that. I'm just going to try to do the job that I can do. Hopefully it's good to. Get the respect of the team and win some basketball games and then management can make their decision.
Now as I said the next try again in Chicago tomorrow night by the way Phil Jackson now full time that's assistant coach under Bob McKinnon and college ball Princeton is playing right now for seventh place in the Far West classic in Portland Oregon it's the Tigers and Cal State Fullerton over the weekend Princeton lost first to Rhode Island 60 to 58 then to Northwestern 70 to 68. Rutgers is playing in the rainbow classic in Hawaii Indiana beat the knights in a first round tournament game 55 50 so after a 4 0 start after just four and five. All this week will ring out the old you're focusing on the big sports stories in the state. Tennis always a big story in the state with both the men's and women's pro tours making stops in New Jersey the men came to South Orange for the mutual benefit open in late July early August in an oddly round match. For instance Jay Lapidus gave John McEnroe a real good run Lapis won the first set but McEnroe came back to win it 4 6 6 3 6 4 for Mac it was his first tournament since losing to Bjorn Borg. And that classic finals at Wimbledon. And it was a tune up for his upcoming U.S. Open appearance where he beat
Borg and classic finals for Lapidus. It was his last tournament as an amateur. He gave up his senior year of eligibility at Princeton to turn pro after the match. McEnroe wanted to lose in a mutual benefit like Open final 6 3 7 0 0. The women arrived in New Jersey later in August and ran up a college with big names like Tracy Austin and Martina Navratilova prepping for the U.S. Open were unceremoniously upset. Tracy lost to Andrea Jaeger and Martino lost the match to her and it set up a kiddie corps finals 15 year old from Illinois and 18 year old man who called in from Czechoslovakia Andrea serving here won the first set them on a came from behind behind a big effect of service and she Woman's Championship 6 7. That's the. Trick. That's our Sports Tomorrow night we'll take a look at the year and boxing. Day Bill thank you. And that's the news for Bill Perry and got something we're going New York I'm Karen style. Good night for the New Jersey nightly news. Usually Nightly News is a joint gruesome. New Jersey public.
