These are pet birds the kind that you might buy in a local pet shop. When you go out to buy a pet be it a dog cat or bird. How do you know that it's in good health that it's not carrying some sort of disease they could be harmful. Here in New Jersey pet stores are inspected by the Department of Health to check on conditions and to check for possible problems. Gary Neuwirth a Red Bank UBS taking credit for the Cure. No thank you for the call into contact with the State Department to get. Lots of the business. It was looking at them through more than Rothman explained. One the night. Might. Change. It is treatable with drugs of the Tetra cycling class and the human. But still I would not the one to have pneumonia even if it's treatable. So I think if anybody has a bird which they are suspicious of they should certainly have it evaluated. Or I can call you there or veterinarian or their health department. If there's any ground I say but in the many
years that I've seen birds I have not found this to be a really serious problem. When Gary's bird was reported to the Department of Health it came to the attention of Dr Robert Goldsboro. Of it. That Gary was interested in having the. Surgery. He had had some birds that he thought were to shellfish being a good aviary keeper he was good. Turns out that you want to find out if they were effective at sicko's or at the. Source that maybe there may be a residue you normally get replaced as a result of a case where a veterinarian suspects this aviary keeper of his quest dish. Don't you know I think he deserves to. Marry. His money as a dealer in all kinds of birds Gary is very sensitive
to the potential problem of marrying doc rather and contact the state because of a bird that. Didn't look so healthy. And. The. Doctor Goldsboro contacted me to inform me that. I thought it was a good idea to treat my person to cycling. After a period of medication Dr Goldsboro took a trip out to Red Bank to test Gary's frock using a new highly reliable method. What we were attempting to do here is. A pain specialist work from a parakeet to determine if this bird is infected with silicosis. What we do is. Collect the specimen. Place it in it too. And if you're several collections we put more. The monk question a Tibetan several questions. Who are famous just to. My mere Laboratory in California where they have this sophisticated technique of isolating looking at them
which is responsible. For silicosis. And I said this is a composite sample. And will be determined. If one or more bird. Is affected. If one bird. Is affected. They show up. In the culture. However. The whole flock. Forand teeny. Because of the fact that we discovered and infected. Birds. Or birds. The question may be asked why we would quarantine a whole flock of birds if only one. Amongst a group. Was infected. The answer being that silicosis. Is a respiratory infection.
Well we transmit it. To other birds and people. Therefore. Because of the potential. Spread. Would be considered deceptive. If we get a call this same one the only way to test. We should because blood samples getting shaky here particularly with small business. Why can't you don't you your hacky to the physical he faces in the room for him taking the floor had to be there with the bank even if the early stages of creation or him leaving. A. Board that. He can't make me move. To work with. Thank you for you to be here. That's a local level course where we are veterinarians and it's not our specialty on the end we help persay which is why we're very closely with the state health department who
has experts in the field readily available to us. So if any question should arise there are always open. I was at a consultation basically. In a shop like this we work closely with state health department to make sure that all the animals are disease free so that. No human should become. Ill and that. All the record keeping is proper so that if a problem should arise we can find out where the birds were purchased from. And Trace. Cases back that way. While the birds were being tested we spoke with Gary about some of the more exotic species hopping around the shop. I just saw two cannon the zoo one day and fell in love with them and decided I have to have it to camp and as it worked out in the shop. His. People love him. He's real happy in the shop and it was easy to take care of. As you might imagine two cans of macaws are very expensive. They appeal to the serious bird lover and definitely are not for everybody. People who have had birds for many years. Who are more or less a hobby as they've had a lot of
different birds they've been to having birds for years. The parakeets cockatiels canaries are people who are just getting started the birds enjoy birds just as a pet. But. Only a larger bird like this really is a hobby not because of the amount of time that it's going to take to take care of a bird like this the expense is any worse with thousand of $3000. And caging them in taking care of them this is all part of the hobby itself. Well proper care one way. Buying your pet from a reputable dealer in the first place is very important obviously in keeping birds on diet proper varying the diet clean water but the tricky thing is attaining a healthy bird from the start. If you if you get a bird that's healthy to begin with you generally don't run into too many problems. There. They're healthy birds this bird. I would expect them to be 60 to 100 years. Provided he never really becomes infected by another bird songs he's
disease free. He'll be healthy for a long time. Speaking of disease free this is a story with a happy ending. The tests from California were negative. Gary strong gets a clean bill of health. 3. 0. 3. 3. 0 3 0 3 3 3 0 0 0. It's a. Good thing.
