a global public health problem, what's that saying? Hepatitis C is a global health problem. For example, in Egypt, they have 10 million patients with chronic hepatitis C. That is 14% of the populations infected. Worldwide, hepatitis C is leading to a rising tide of liver cancer. Also, it is the number one reason patients receive blood transfusions. Many millions of patients worldwide will die of chronic hepatitis C because most countries don't have the economic resources or healthcare professionals to tackle the problem. In the United States, hepatitis C disproportionately affects the poor. Although we have effective treatments, patients in rural areas don't have access to these treatments. 65% of patients with chronic hepatitis C in the
United States acquired it through past history of injection drug use. Others acquired it through contaminated blood transfusions prior to 1992 through one sterile tattoos or via sexual transmission. That's about as good as I can do it. No, no, it's not.
