Description
Episode Description
"A mysterious, swirling, wonder horse and a grandmother that smokes cigars, are part of the magic found in 'A Mi Raza' a documentary about the good work of Nuevo Mexicano writer Sabine Ulibarri. Yet, 'A Mi Raza' is all about pride, democracy and the value of education. Over 50 years, Sabine Ulibarri, has written poetry and stories about his great passion -- the Hispanic culture in which he was raised in northern New Mexico. He delights in writing about the customs, myths, and people of his youth. His goal is to honor the culture he loves, and share it so different cultures can gain understanding and respect for one another. As an educator, Ulibarri has worked tirelessly to teach the lessons of humanity found in literature -- to show how we are all the same. Importantly through his own writing, he has taught Hispanic students to understand and honor their own culture and to work hard. "Beautifully photographed, 'A Mi Raza' is a success story. It is a rare, inspirational broadcast that captures the spirit of a man who believes that by adhering to one's talents and ideals, anyone can succeed."--1995 Peabody Awards entry form.
