- Transcript

And we certainly welcome each and every one of you and hope we can get you busy now. Our goal this break is $800.

And there's also some other things Bill writes for our viewing audience. Yes we do. Kathy and I too would like to take a special make special mention of principal group over here. We've had many dealings with him in the Albuquerque Public School and they're a wonderful group and they've been very supportive of it.
Now we'd like to offer this to our listing audience so we have a coaster here and it's a very heavy metal coaster and it certainly wouldn't slip off of your desk or your coffee table or whatever you might have in your home. For a $60 pledge we're presenting this to all of our people out of our listing audience. It's real heavy so I think you'd really enjoy this in certain. So it certainly would be a prestigious to have in your office desk or even in your home when people see this so send in a $60 pledge. Not only do you get the mug and the coaster that you saw which the first time I saw I walked in the room and it was pledge and I went what is that some kind of little pocket TV with a brown picture that's the funniest looking thing I ever saw and you out there it is there to look like a brown TV set with a round screen now I'm old enough that I remember round screens and color pictures that looked awfully brown you don't get that on channel five now but in the early days well what else do you get you get a mouse pad the news hour with Jim Blair mouse pad you use it with your computer and then when your computer does what you want it to when you use the mouse pad that's news. If it's time to renew, please mail your contributions to K-N-M-E-T-V, 1200 University Boulevard Northeast, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 8-7-1-0-2. This is K-N-M-E-T-V in Albuquerque. Next, on Great Performances. And of course, Mike Langer over at the phone bank with our phone friend this evening who
are the principal financial group, and we certainly do appreciate all of you giving your time this evening to come and answer your phone for our August Pledge Drive. Remember, the phone number is on the bottom of your screen, please call it. You can put your pledge on Visa or MasterCard. We have a very large goal this break, so we've got to get those phones ringing. We've got some wonderful things coming your way this evening aside from the programming. Great performances, of course, is celebrating at 23rd year this year on PBS, and with this fine musical performance, we know that you will want to call in now and become a member
of Channel 5, right, Bill? That's for sure, Kathy. Thank you. Kathy, one thing I'd like to clear up with our viewers in the television audience is our new 888 number. That is a toll-free number. We've been having a 1-800, but the 1-888-242-5663 is a toll-free number, and for course, for those people in the local viewing audience, 765-555. During this particular break, we are offering laymirs aros. You know, I practiced that word for quite a while, hoping I could say it. Most people are saying laymirs around here, because they can't really pronounce it, but for $150. We're giving this VHS tape for a contribution, $150. Remember, you can send it in by check. Credit card will almost barter if you want to, but anyway, please send in a pledge of $150 for laymirs.
And if you enjoy and laymirs this evening, we hope that you've already become a member because it's thanks to you that we are able to bring you this fine performance this evening. We're watching it this evening, and you are not a member of Channel 5. Well, you're getting this program because of someone else, and we hope that you'll feel a little guilty this evening, and go to your phone, dial one of the numbers on your screen, and pledge your support, because this is the kind of television viewing that you do enjoy on Channel 5. We have a lot coming up this evening in the line of laymirs. It's a very long performance. We'll be here most of the evening bringing you this fine performance. But like I said earlier, we've got a little bit of a job to do here. We've got to get these phones ringing, and get those dollars in, right, Bill? We certainly do, and I'd certainly like to hear those phones ringing over there. You know, the people from the principal group are really good at answering the phone anyway, because that's their business, the sales, you know, so we could really stand to have those phones ringing over there. I particularly like to keep that Charles Casey busy over there on the phone, so please
call in. 7655555, or, remember, we have a toll free number, a new toll free number, 1-888-242-5663. You know, we here at Channel 5 have a really quality program, and the quality, if it is to continue, has to depend upon you for contribution. As some of you probably have heard us say in the past, only one out of seven acts in makes the contributions to Channel 5. You know, we receive some funds from the federal government, some from the state, some from the APS, and some from the University of New Mexico, but 47% of all donations depend upon people like you. So if you're to continue to have quality program that you like, please contribute and make a pledge, 7655555, or our new 1-888-242-5663. Kathy?
Thank you, Bill. We're going to go up to Mike now. He's going to be introducing us to some very special guest this evening. Take it away, Mike. Well, thank you, as you heard from Bill and Kathy. Here at Channel 5, we get support from a half a dozen sources. We get bills from several hundred. And you know, that makes your support one of the most important sources. So please call one of the numbers on your screen. Call us, let the principal folks answer the phone, principal financial securities here tonight. They're real good at answering the phone and taking your money and making investments, and they're here to make your investment in Channel 5 pay off for you tonight. 7655555, or out of Albuquerque toll free, 1-888-242-5663. Which if you're kind of a, what do they call it in the computer age, an alpha numeric gun a guy, that's 2-42-K-N-M-E. How convenient. It is convenient. Please, go to your phone and call us. Joining me here tonight from the principal financial securities office here in Albuquerque, we have Carol Jones and Bob Cussell.
Welcome. Carol Jones, you're here. You're here in force. You know, you could be mowing the lawn or pulling weeds tonight, but you've given up those activities to come here to Channel 5. Why is Channel 5 important to you and to principal financial securities? Well, because Mike, after I mow the lawn and pull the weeds, I like to go indoors, sit down, relax, get out the remote control, and turn to Channel 5, and watch some wonderful public television. And so that's why we're here. And Bob Cussell, you're here with Carol. Obviously to you and to the principal, Channel 5 is very important. You're enjoying tonight's music. Yes, indeed. I feel as if Channel 5 is a very important part of the community and we hope all the viewers out there will support Channel 5 by calling in tonight. And it's important enough to you that you have an important statement to make and an important issue to bring up with our broadcast audience. That's true. We have a challenge. Principal financial group, our parent company, has always been a very strong supporter of public television and is very happy to support public television in New Mexico. So tonight we'd like to issue a challenge, and that is this, for every dollar that
we raise tonight. Principal financial group will contribute 50 cents to K&M, up to $3,000. So for the first 3,000 that we raise, Principal financial group will contribute $1,500. So that means if I m doing the arithmetic correctly, tonight, not only if you come to answer the phones and help us out, but we could walk out tonight on behalf of Channel 5. And $1,500 of your money in our pocket, did I get the right? You got that right. It's austerely quiet. And if it's austerely quiet, it's going to be austerely not very remunerative folks. So I hope you'll call us. So my question is, Bob Casell, did you sign the check, did she sign the check? Whose idea was this anyway? Well, this is an idea we had before and we think it's a great idea. We just hope that the people on third are going to call in and make a lot of pledges. Okay, you heard us talk about it. Now it's time for what they call it in the business, the action statement. 765-5555 out of Albuquerque, 1-888-242-KNME. With your pledge for every $2 you pledge tonight during this wonderful program, the Principal
Financial Security's folks will add $1 the pile up to $1,500 of their money. You've always wanted to make money with your investments. Every time you talk to a financial advisor, tonight the financial advisors are talking to you. We're talking about supporting KNME TV by going to your phone and saying, this music, this drama, this story, Victor Hugo's artistry brought to life on stage is important to me. In fact, it's so important to me. I want to keep some of it in the house and we can do that for you. The VHS video tonight in stereo, $150. Would like it to the end of this list. This gets better. The CD, $120. Pick would you like the cassette tape? We'll do that for you. $1,500, $7,65, $5, $5, $5, $5, $5, around of Albuquerque, $1,88, $2, $4, $2, $5, $6, $6, $3. Who does her hair anyway? Isn't that great? I like the hair. The mug, $60, the T-shirt, which you saw a moment ago, $100, the whole shooting match, if you'll call us worth $530 and in terms of supporting channel 5, priceless support
from you to this great station, just $500. So please call us and remember, your $500 brings $250 from Carol and Bob and that goes a long way to making your contribution more and more important. Please take the principal up on their challenge tonight. Please go to your phone and call. Please select a premium and please keep a momentum from us here at channel 5, close to your home, close to your heart. $6, $5, $5, $5, $5, $5, $5 or $1, $8, $8, $0, $0, $0, $0 if you don't call but $0, $1, $8, $8, $8, $2, $4, $2, $5, $6, $6, $3, thanks, Kathy. Thank you very much. Thank you for that fine presentation and thank you each and every one of you for the principal financial group challenge tonight. We hope you'll go to work now and get our phone friends busy because that's what they're here for.
We're very proud that you've chosen to spend your evening with K&ME and great performances, Lay Meas. There's millions of Americans that tune in to public television every week. And you know what thousands of them take that extra step to make their financial commitment to keep programs like the great performances coming your way each and every week. We have a lot of fine great performances throughout the year. So we hope that you will become one of those thousands of people that do go to their phone, make their contribution and support great performances and K&ME in the channel 5 viewing area. And Bill's going to go over a few thank you gift for you this evening. We know you'll be delighted and we know that you'll make that call. Thank you Kathy and what a delightful performance. You know, people can save a lot of money by not having to go to New York to see Lay Meas. You know, it's still appearing on Broadway. But for donation and for support of channel 5, thank you and watch it right here on our own channel 5. Yes, we've been, the phones have been fairly busy and during this past break, we've had
several people calling contributions pledges. We've had Helen Brano-Witz from Taos, New Mexico. Taos has always been a lively group for us to call in. Mary May Skelken from Albuquerque called in a donation, Gene Rayside from Santa Fe. Santa Fe is always a big supporter of the arts. And LC reigns, or veins from Albuquerque also. You know, during this particular break, we're advertising the video tape, Lay Measeraal, for $120. We also have the compact disc for $120, pardon me, this was $150, $124 the compact disc. So please send in those contributions, again, 7655555, R18882425663. Mike?
Well, you know, if you don't call us, we don't get to hear from you. If you don't get to camera line up, don't get to see me. Thank you for inviting us into your home tonight. As you can see here beside me, there's some very important symbolism pieces in this music we're hearing tonight and in Victor Hugo's story. You know, you probably read the story as a youngster, and you know, and you've been following the music tonight, that our hero steals a loaf of bread to feed a hungry family. And later in the story, two candlesticks figure very prominently. Tonight, these two candlesticks and this loaf of bread are very important to you, because without your support, the bread to feed our television family is not here. Without you coming through and saying, yes, what you do is important. And I want to say thanks and reward you for the fact that you have faith in the importance of American television.
These candlesticks are an important symbol, as we'll hear later in tonight's performance. 765-5555 is the number. It is important that you call that number, and it is important that you call it now. No where else will you hear this music? Will you see this pageantry? If Channel 5 doesn't do it, it won't be done. It is because you support this station that we can bring you what you are experiencing tonight. There's a great deal of it yet to come, and it's made possible by your support. If you're listening in one of the many communities we serve by translator, please 1-888-242-K-N-M-E. That's 5-663. If cable is not accessible to you, you really know the value of the station. If cable is accessible to you, you know that this station is being mimicked and followed everywhere. Public broadcasting leaves the way. Help us shine that light. Support us by calling now. Kathy? Thank you, isn't he marvelous? Just gifted with wonderful words, and we hope that he has spoken to your heart and that
you will go to your phone, give us a call, and remember, you can put your pledge on Visa or MasterCard. For those of you who are just joining us, we are getting ready to go into act 2 of the great performances, Les Mis. If you've tuned in to watch this whole House of Home Time, we apologize for the interruptions this evening, but we are in the midst of our fundraising period. And please tune in Saturday to watch the next episode of This All House and Home Time. We're going back to great performances, Les Mis. We hope you're enjoying this performance, but we hope that you won't forget us. We'll be here all during the program to take your call if you choose to call us. But we'll be back in about a half an hour to let you know how you've done, but remember, we need your support. Thank you for watching. Thank you for your support during this pledge drive.
If it's time to renew, please mail your contributions to K-N-M-E-T-V-1200. That's the end of part 2 of Les Mis arabes in concert. One person can make a difference in so many lives.
Your pledge of financial support will let this station know the kind of program you want to see, including special events like this 10th anniversary celebration of Les Mis arabes. What a delightful evening, Kathy. Our viewers must be having at home tonight watching this performance of Les Mis arabes, however you pronounce it. You know, this performance has approximately 250 performers in it, and many of the performers are from 14 different countries around the world. And it's also being conducted by David Charles Abel and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. You know, this performance also has been seen recently in the Orient and Australia. And it's come away with all kinds of accolades from those particular countries, which is unusual in Oriental countries. Now probably the one of the easiest ways to support this program, Kathy, is to use the automatic contribution system that's available. For a small as $5 a month, you can have $5 taken out of your checking account, any bank
in Albuquerque, and most all of them in New Mexico, and contribute to your pledge. $5 a month, can you imagine? Most of us with a miss it, it's kind of like tithing to the church. You know, you this automatically give $5 for that contribution. Now Kathy, I guess I should introduce you, this is Kathy Bernat, who is the program director here at Channel 5, and I'm Bill Rothenberger with the Albuquerque Public School of Board of Education. And I might mention also, I'm right next door here also with the University of New Mexico Health Science Center, I said on the Board of Trustees here at this hospital also. Now we've got a wonderful group of people here answering the phones tonight, the principal group, the principal financial group, and I'm not hearing those phones ringing either. And they're wonderful at answering phones, that's their business, depending on the phone. So let's hear those phones ringing, 76555555, or I knew, 1-888-2425663. And I forgot to introduce one of our most important persons.
He's sitting back there because he's sitting down now almost forgotten. And that's Mike Blan and Langner back there with KHFM radio. Thank you, Mike. Kathy? Thank you very much Bill. And you know, I know you are enjoying this performance this evening and as Bill was talking about all the wonderful things that come together to make this performance, it also cost a lot of money. And of course, it costs K&M a lot of money to bring you great performances every season. And this is the 23rd season that we've been able to present to you. So we hope that you believe in this enough and this is the kind of programming that you enjoy, your family enjoys, and you will support. And one of the nicest ways that we can think of to say thank you is to offer you a VHS copy of this program, Les Miserables. And it will be a welcome viewing thing for you in the fall, add it to your tape library at home for $150. You can receive this VHS and you can put it on your VSO or MasterCard. Please call one of the numbers on your screen below and give one of our volunteers a call
and let them know that you support this kind of programming. Like the phone, help us. Okay. Let's see. Two, four. Wait a minute. I'm speaking to a loaf of bread, Carol. Do you see a microphone here? No, but I hear the phone ringing. Well, it must be a microphone somewhere because the phone started to ring. I think we've been all speaking to a loaf of bread because the phone has not been ringing. So come on. Out, out, bad bread. A little bread wouldn't hurt, actually, some of yours tonight, 7655555 or 1-888-2425663. It's important that you call as you enjoy tonight's music, as this story unfolds, as these singers come to the stage to perform for you, it's time for a little bit of perform for them. You know, they're singing for their supper. Well, we got a little bit of supper right here and this is called bread. Supper for this television station, that's a kind of bread.
Bread works real well. Actually, I had some of that for lunch today with a little tuna fish sandwich, it seemed like it. That's another story. Plastic bread meets your master card or visa, a meester card, right? With master card or visa when you call to make your pledge, we'll send you newsweek for a whole year. What a deal. What a country. What a television station. Come on now. 7655555 or out of Albuquerque toll free 1-888-242-5663. And? And not only do I challenge you tonight to support Channel 5, Carol Jones from Principal Financial Securities is challenging all of us. Now you have this check here that we want to have in support of Channel 5. I know you'd like to relieve her of the burden of carrying this money around. And do I understand Carol, for every $2 that somebody calls a number on your screen and pledges, you'll write a check for another dollar? That is correct, up to $1,500. So if we raise $3,000 tonight Principal Financial Group, we're going to check to Camini KNME
for $1,500. And it is such a burden that she has to carry this money around. It's a terrible load, so please help us unburden this wonderful person. It's true. Hopefully your loaf of bread will get a rise out of those folks. Our check is over there in the corner, just waiting to be spent. Not only is the check not just in the mail, hey, the check's here. So let's not do the mail. Let's do the television. Let's do the telephone. Let's do the technical thing. Let's put technology to work where it's most important in making great TV programs come to your home. It happens because you support this station. Call us at 765-5555 or out of Albuquerque 1-888-242 KNME. That's 5663. Kind of clever, isn't it? Channel 5 covers a vast area. Huge parts of our state, as well as all of our neighborhoods here in Albuquerque, watch this station, listen to the music on this station, and see public television lead the way as others follow.
As cable channels come on the air and do small parts of what we do here at PBS. But constantly, consistently, because you care PBS is in the forefront. Only because you care. So please, do pick up your phone and do call tonight. Call the numbers on your screen. We would like to hear from you. Kathy? Thank you very much. You know, great performances tonight is being brought to you by the members of the Channel 5. And we hope that you will join our family. KNME Channel 5 needs your support right now. 765-5555. Or if you're outside of our calling area, 1-888-242-563, it's real important that we hear from you this evening because great performances does cost KNME a lot of money to bring to you. And if this is your kind of programming and you're not a member, we hope that you'll call us tonight. For those of you who have already called and made your contribution, we certainly do appreciate it. And we hope you'll enjoy the rest of the evening of Les Mins.
Right? Right, Kathy. Kathy, one thing I'd like to say at this time is, you know, by the Albuquerque Public Schools we've been trying to promote the Fine Arts, but you know, what better way of promoting the Fine Arts than to making a pledge to Channel 5? And now we this year reinstituted 22 new positions in the Fine Arts program. So I would like to challenge the APS employees if they're really conscientious about promoting the Fine Arts. I'd like to challenge them to come forth with a pledge, not only for themselves but for the children of this district. And you know who else I would like to also encourage are the parents, please. The parents say they're so interested in the Fine Arts. I think this is a wonderful opportunity to encourage them. And I've got another group. You know, I worked here this past fund drive with the New Mexico and Albuquerque Radio Ham operators. And I eat with them practically every Tuesday right next to their table at first cafeteria. And I told them, I am going to ask you to, I'm going to challenge you to also call in
those donations. There are a wonderful group of people and they meet at first cafeteria every Tuesday night. And they're also very strong supporters. But I'd like to hear from them tonight also. Then there's one other group of people I'd like to challenge. You know, I said, well, a goal that I was a member of the University of New Mexico hospital group. I'd like to challenge the board, if no one else, of the University hospital group to challenge them to make a contribution. And you know, I'd certainly like to make this $3,000 goal this particular period so that financial corporation, financial group, would donate $1,500. Thank you, Bill. And you know, we're going to go up to Mike and see what's happening with our challenge update, Mike. Well, I want to talk to you about a group too. It's a group that I belong to. And it's a group that you belong to. You and I belong to the most important group in the arts, in theater, in music, and in public television.
You and I belong to the audience. When we go to the theater, we buy a ticket. When we watch this station, nobody asks for a ticket. But we ask you to support the station. Is it your ticket? Yes. It's your ticket to great television. And it's yours with your pledge to $76555555 or our toll free number, $1,8882425663. The cost of admission is very low. The value you receive is huge. Here are some folks that called and made their pledges. Let's say thank you. Robert Watson from Dahera, Susan Brown from Edgewood from Los Lunas, Henry Estrada, John Hamilton from Farmington. In Albuquerque, Pamela Trent, Marjorie Miller, Sue Ann Gunn, and In Los Alamos, Lily Brunson. Thank you all very much. And I'd like to thank you. I would like to thank you for supporting Channel 5. And all you have to do is call us. And then you receive my thanks. You also receive the thanks of thousands of Channel 5 viewers who may not be as fortunate as you are.
Many of them are children. But we often talk in this country about how the largest disenfranchised constituency in this country is our children. They can't vote. They also can't support Channel 5. They're depending on you. They may tune in to see Big Bird and Sesame Street. You tune in to see tonight's wonderful music. Because you care, you have tonight's music, and they have their music and their programs. That's why Channel 5 is important. So please, for every reason that you know it's so important, and putting aside every hesitation whatever that may be that keeps you from getting out of the chair and walking to the telephone, call us tonight and make your pledge of support. And remember tonight, every $2 that you share with us, the principal financial securities people, add a dollar, what an investment, what a rate of return, what an opportunity. It takes just a moment of your time. It takes so very little money. It gets you so much. And with your MasterCard or Visa, it gets you Newsweek, 52 issues coming to your home as our thanks to you.
I appreciate you doing it. What do you need to do it? So come on, Bill. How many times have you said, someday I'll do it? And we keep putting it all, like many other things that we do. Someday I'm going to write that check, or someday I'm going to call in a pledge, or someday I'm going to have so much a month deducted from my savings or my checking account. But you know, that day is today, because if we're going to continue to have quality programming, then we've got to have our viewers call in those pledges. As you know, we received some of our funding from the federal government, some from the state of New Mexico, some from the Albuquerque public schools, and some from the University of New Mexico, but 47% of all of our donations come from people like you. So we need that pledge. Try to help us because we now have a group that is willing to contribute $1,500 if we can just bring in $3,000.
So please call 7655555 or our new number, 1-882425663, Mike. Well, we're sitting here surrounded by people and phones. Got more people right now, and we got phones talking to us. So please, we've got plenty of lines. You've got time. We've got more great music coming. We need to hear from you. We'd like to say thanks to, we'd like to send you a videotape in stereo tonight show with your pledge of $150, the CD for $120, a cassette tape. You can listen to this wonderful music in your car for $100, the mug for $60, and the t-shirt, the Le Miserable t-shirt for $100. In the aggregate, this is $530 worth of premiums for $500, their yours, and this woman sitting beside me will add $250 of hers to the pot. Now she is challenging you to support us, and I'm going to challenge her. So we need a camera for this one, because are you ready for this challenge?
Now, hold the bread just like this. This is the way they do it in Le Miserable t-shirt. Okay? Now, whoever's bread breaks first has to double the challenge. This is not the radio, Mike, they can see us. You know, it is great fun to be here with you tonight, and it's so much fun to be in your home. But it'd be so much more fun if we get to hear from you instead of you just get to hear from us. And you don't even have to, my bread almost broke, I almost got myself in trouble. So please call us, it is a delight to talk with you, but please, it is a delight when you talk to us. That's very serious. Please call the numbers on your screen. Bill? Thank you very much, and if you are a current member, we thank you very much for tuning in and putting your money where your mouth is, so to speak. We have not heard from you this evening. We do hope that you'll go to your phone, call one of the numbers on your screen. We're going back to the third part of great performances, Le Miserables.
We hope you'll enjoy it. We'll be back in just a few minutes to let you know how you did on this break, and we hope that you will call us during the program if you'd like. The number will be on your screen, and we'll be back shortly to let you know how you did. Thank you for your support during this pledge drive. If it's time to renew, please mail your contributions to K&M. Once again, for tuning in and making Channel 5 your choice of viewing this evening. Hi, I'm Kathy Burnett, Program Manager here at Channel 5, and of course with me this evening is Bill Rothenberger, who is with the Albuquerque Public School, and we have Mike Langner, who is with KHFM, and of course our wonderful phone volunteers who are with the principal
financial group, and my, they've done a terrific job this evening. We almost met our challenge here, and we really appreciate all their hard work. Thank you for tuning in, and we hope that you'll continue to keep them busy by dialing one of the numbers on your screen, and giving them a call to let them know that you support this kind of programming in your viewing area. You know, we were just talking at the break, Bill, about you're with the Albuquerque Public School, and around those students all day long, and how important this is for the students then you're, especially since they've taken a lot of the arts and music and stuff out of the schools, and something like this would just be excellent. Well, it certainly is, Kathy, and of course we're bringing it back into the public schools. Very good. You know, another group that I left out, and that is the Albuquerque Youth Symphony. I set on that board of directors also, and I know that we have many people in the audience tonight listening to that program, because I saw two or three names here all ago on the pledges.
So I'm asking them also, please, to contribute a pledge to this group, because if you want to see the continuation of the fine arts, this is a wonderful opportunity to do so. How many of our students are going to be inspired here tonight by watching such a performance? One never knows how we affect one child, just one child might be influenced by this wonderful performance. Now, during this break, we're offering a VHS of Les Miserables for a $150 donation. $150. You can have this date. What a marvelous opportunity to have this for your library. Kathy, I can't tell you what a marvelous production that we were having here tonight. I'm sure people will want to contribute. I'd like to hear those phones ringing a little more over there. Remember, 765-5555 are our new 1-888-242-5663, Kathy? And you know, Bill, one thing that experience has taught us here at K-N-A-M-E is that when
you think about making a pledge, the best thing to do is to go and do it right then, because if you put it off, most of the time you forget, and when you forget, it doesn't do any of us any good. So, we don't want that to happen, because we want to keep this fine quality programming coming your way like the great performances that you see in the evening. So, go to your phone, give us a call, the number is on your screen. Remember, we do take VHS and MasterCard, and we've got some wonderful news up in the phone bank area, so we're going to jump up to Mike and see what's happening. You know, it's kind of like horseshoes. You can be close and it can count. We're close and it almost counts. We're close and counting. We're counting on you. We're just under $700 shy of being able to turn to our good friends here at Principal Financial Securities and accept their check that you have made possible for them to give to us thanks to your support. I did a little arithmetic while Kathy and Bill were chatting with you.
If each of these telephones you've seen here tonight were to ring with a $50 pledge on each phone, we'd have the challenge grant filled. That's all it takes. And what do you get when you call besides a real good feeling from supporting public television for $150? Yes, the VHS video, Stereo Cassette, for $120, the CD to play and to cherish and to enjoy over and over. In your car for $100, the audio cassette, on your coffee table, the mug for $60, if each phone here were to light with $60 for this mug, we would have the challenge grant. For the T-shirt, $100, the whole package is worth $530, it's yours for $500. Sound like I have something for sale. Do I have something for sale? No, no, no.
I have a thank you to you for supporting Channel 5. A quick thanks to some folks around town who've helped us out. I'd like your name to be on this list. David Persons from Albuquerque, Sherry Perrin from Santa Fe from Chimai, O.A. Margaret Best. In Santa Fe, Donald Pierce, in Albuquerque, Carol Yarnell, also James and Barbara Red, up in Tows, Aaron Stagg and Keith Stagg. Thank you very, very much. Also, excuse me, Santa Fe, pardon my hay fever. Catherine Visat-Noldard, and in Sandia Park, Ellen Goldberg. You've put us so close, now, call us at the numbers on your screen and put us over the top. Seated next to me is Bob Kisell from, the principal financial securities, folks. He's here because he believes in Channel 5. And we're going to come back shortly and see if we've made what we hope we're making. Yes, the phones are ringing. You're doing something wonderful. You are supporting Channel 5. You're making tonight's magic possible. It's wonderful to hear the sound.
It's wonderful to hear the voices. It's wonderful that you let us into your home. It's wonderful that you come into our home with your telephone call. So please call us. We're ready and we're waiting to hear from you, Kathy. Oh, thank you very much and all these phones are just going crazy and we love it and we thank you very much for tuning in and calling and making our evening worthwhile. The principal financial group is giving up their evening to come and answer phone for public television because this is something they really do believe in. And not only that, they've also offered a challenge to us and we're almost there and we thank you for making this dream come true because we'll receive an additional $1,500 from this group. And you know you may be sitting at home saying, wow, $1,500, well, I'm sure my little $45 doesn't count. Well, you couldn't be more wrong because everything adds up after a little while and every little bit helped to keep this kind of quality programming coming your way for you and your family, Bill.
Why? I've never heard the phones ring that much in my guy. Talk about the fine arts. I tell you, that's music to my ears when I hear the phone ring. If you'll notice on your screen now, we've even got the Robert Lucero, the producer of this show, answering the phones, we've got every phone ringing. What a marvelous sound. You know, I'm beginning to think, Kathy, maybe some of those challenges that I made to the parents of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony, the Albuquerque Public School Board of Education and the employees of APS, the University of New Mexico Hospital, and also another organization that's very supportive and that is the Albuquerque Radio Ham Operator. Let's hear from you a little bit more. We really need this. You know, in order to have a wonderful program, we need a partnership, but not only individuals in this town and this state, but also with business people and other organizations such of those involved in the arts. What a marvelous... Oh, guys, that sound is certainly wonderful over there. Now, I'd like to turn it back to Mike. You know, Bob, you're talking about the Ham Radio Operator, folks.
They understand the value of electronics, radio, communications, as you do when you call and support Channel 5. And the Ham Radio group will be here Sunday afternoon as our phone friends. We're proud of them. We're proud of you. We're proud of everybody who supports Channel 5. I've been a lifelong ham myself. You probably knew that. You've seen an herd from me or... It's so wonderful that you are calling. Thank you. Please continue. If you are not yet on the phone with us, we've got someone who wants to hear from you. 765-55555, and you've heard us say out of Albuquerque, it's toll-free and it is 1-888-242-5663. Remember the premiums we offered tonight, very, very important ways that we say thanks to you, we recognize your support and your contribution. If you use your Visa and MasterCard, Newsweek comes to you 52 weeks. If you pledge at the $150 level, the VHS videotape in Stereo is yours at $120, the compact disc of tonight's music.
The cassette for $100, the mug for 60, the T-shirt, wonderful to show your support of this program and this TV station $100. All of them $500, they're worth $530, and I've got another idea too. You know, I received something in the mail the other day that you might have. Some members of Channel 5 did. It's an envelope that looks a whole lot like this. It has your name, it has your address, it says Channel 5. And it may just be your renewal, perhaps it's a request for an additional gift. But I like you to answer this piece of mail, yes, but more important, if you call tonight with your Visa and MasterCard, you've answered the mail and you've gotten yourself 52 weeks of Newsweek magazine delivered right to your home. So please, call us tonight, answer the request in the mail, support Channel 5, however you'd like to, but be a part of our family. Call us now, show your support, participate with us, and join everyone from the Principal Financial Group, the Principal Financial Security's folks are here, and within minutes, we
will know if we are over the top. From the phone activity, I bet you we are. We'll check, and I'll be right back to you. Okay. Okay, thank you very much, Mike, and you know we've just got a few more days left with our August fund drive, and it's just one more way of asking you to help us because we bring quality programming to you and your family, 365 days out of the year, and then we take a short break and ask for your support. So we hope that you will continue to keep those phone drinking, keep our phone volunteers busy, dial one of the numbers on your screen, and pledge your support. And it's especially inviting to hear from the callers on our outside of our calling area by calling 1-8-8-8-2425-663, it's always a pleasure to hear from our neighbors. And we know that you believe in quality television, and we hope that you're supporting that. Thank you. You're welcome. And now back to our program. And rest against my shoulder, I'll fast them in its fly away in every minute quarter.
Thank you for your support during this pledge drive. If it's time to renew, please mail your contributions to K-N-M-E-T-V, 1200 University Boulevard Northeast, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 8-7-1-0-2.
This is K-N-M-E-T-V and Albuquerque. I've been able to have a very healthy little drive tonight, and of course I want to thank very much Bill, and I want to thank Mike for coming in this evening. It's been a privilege working with both of you, and we hope that you'll continue to enjoy a little while longer. And we're going to stay so long, good night, and thank you again for your contributions and all of your help. And we'll see you again tomorrow evening. And if you haven't called tonight, we hope that you will be able to do so tomorrow night. So from all of us, good night, and thank you very much. And the winter is coming on fast, ready to kill, when they nearer to die, at the end of the day, it's another day to all of it. And the sun in the morning is waiting to rise, and the waves rise on the sand, light is walking over every second. There's a hot world around, so the record is still going to be record, but it's already out today.
At the end of the day, at the end of the day, you get nothing but nothing. Sitting front, yep, up, doesn't find any bread. Let our children back and hold. Thank you for your support during this pledge drive. If it's time to renew, please mail your contributions to KNME TV, 1200 University Boulevard Northeast, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 8702. This is KNME TV, in Albuquerque. And see what Altie has to say. It's all too easy for us to fail to say thank you enough. So let's take just a moment, and let me share with you some people who not only do we want to thank, but you want to thank, because they are supporting this great television station.
Carol Page from Santa Fe, Lawn Fela Balm from Farmington. From Albuquerque, Barbara Eisenhart and Christopher Burke. In Rio Rancho, Richard Zamora. In Fort Defiance, Arizona, thank you to Nancy Myers. In Albuquerque, Eric Kenny, Newt Sorenson, and Lisa Gleason. Did I read your name? I would like to read your name. I read names of people who provide you with great television viewing. If you'll call us, you become part of the team. It is important that you join this television effort that you support Channel 5, because this station provides the programs that bring you to do what you are doing now, to share us for this music. It is important to you if it weren't you wouldn't be here. You are here. So come closer to us, come to your telephone, and call the number on your screen. With Mastercard or Visa, you'll get news week for 52 weeks as our thank you.
If you call and say, I understand there's a CD. Gee, I understand there's a videotape. Well, what about the T-shirt? Our five principal financial securities will take good care of you. Take a moment and help us take care of this station. Kathy? Well, the phones are starting to ring again, and it's not too late to come and make that pledge. We most of them are busy, but we still have a few over there that are not ringing, so please call in those pledges. What if we weren't here for you this evening? You would have missed this wonderful opportunity to see lame as a rod. Just all the other programming that we have here at Channel 5. We have programs for children, we have the fine arts, we have nature, we have something for everyone. But if we weren't here, you wouldn't be able to see these programs. Now you know that only one out is seven of you actually contribute.
And while we receive support from the federal government, the state of New Mexico, the University of New Mexico, and the Albuquerque Public Schools, we need your donation because 47 percent of our budget. They can, in the performance you're enjoying tonight. As you know, part of the plot of tonight's story has to do with silver candlesticks. Our hero, having stolen some silver from the bishop, is taken back to the bishop as you know. And as John Durham say, we have...
