for she's been turned to affection city seeing a tough cookie and that certainly describes louise scruggs in that show at a time when it was tough for women to be tough really is not only knocked on doors she bulldozed her way into the business side of the music industry is blazing a trail for the women who would follow in her footsteps it's a role she seemed destined to play since childhood most polluted there's no way lily's an earl began dating when he was performing with bill monroe and his bluegrass boys by the time the two married in nineteen forty eight earl and lester flatt had left monroe to form their own group which they called flatt and scruggs and the foggy mountain boys early always began a family and always seen cast in the role of housewife a mother it happened quite accidentally they're starting book an inmate or was done looking for the show and it was done the concerts are inadequate and so one day he was good there were originally
even in the end as nine it was somewhere in virginia o'rourke handed me his name and he said this balanced book our show visit a new column in st vincent this data well i'd heard him do that some intentional so are calling a book today for an american market no message anymore nine second call turner says they got to do this as to say you'll always had a flair for the business side of the music industry is putting it mildly she knew her husband was extraordinarily talented and she was determined for others to recognize it as well always quickly learned the way to be taken seriously was to build serious business and that trend actually set an agenda and i've tried to raise the level of sophistication and i did negotiate some very good contractor plant where he has
started nagging only female personnel management and bob levy and then management of the things i just thought there's something more to this than gone out here and working those milestone national so i managed to be in foreign policy or areas and always as confident hands flatt and scruggs and the foggy mountain boys arrived they were touring constantly there's saturday night television show was doing well and guest appearances on the beverly hillbillies brought them even more attention and recognition and are also learned there were other benefits to having always as his manager or oil love don't know what you're doing out there on the road but be a major art that she notes for ahmed and while i'm there in and you i should say long live she's not born with a more should note when there were i know but back when she started we had three little boys also and later lashed out a
lot better by her no one while it's a worm which tahrir were walton while they're huge sentiment there by the early sixties flatt and scruggs were doing well enough to afford to hire a top notch management team but always thrived too much satisfaction from being on the business and to relinquish her position and manson and the suburban area known as the tea parties and the road rage coyle jamal esther from apple it under this one accomplished at the end of their name or day letting someone else who understands exactly what louise was dealing with as francis preston president and ceo of bmi who began her career shortly after louise scruggs first opened the door francis remembers vividly the kinds of prejudice she had always had to face in this male bastion sure that everybody thought that he was secretary for years with you soon found out that if you wanted anything
louis had to be the one to give you the answer he made it very clear he was actually been that he was a tough one but bill werde says earl scruggs is still recording and touring and always is still very much involved in managing his career there are many women in management positions in the music industry today thanks to the pathways scruggs help to forge always herself would do it all again in a heartbeat and maybe do it even better this time around could that have a fax machine and a computer and all this good stuff for nashville public radio hour or so
