Night times is a production of channel 2. This is night times variety. Tonight we are featuring two prominent vocalists John Hendricks who has contemporary music since the 1950s and first person we take special pride in presenting a national recording star and draws inspiration from the Twin Cities area. Yet you can't find as inspirational as the man himself. Recording artist Rocky Robins. Plan me.
With. It. Yes.
The words contemporary music for decades. He is a master of vocal ease which is the technique
of writing lyrics to instrumental tunes. That's what he helped pioneer in the 1950s with the famed trio Lambert Hendricks and Ross and what he continues to do today with his new group John Hendrix and company for their first song tonight the company will feature not only John but his wife Judith singing trumpet his daughter Michelle singing saxophone and vocalist Bob girl and singing trombone. The first number is call is Count Bass is classic one o'clock jump and the second number you're not going to believe it features Bob girland singing trumpet. This is not a harmonica it's not a trumpet it's a man's voice. You know we didn't. Know.
That. It was a. Little. Bit. Wrong.
With. Him I. Guess. Get. Me. Wrong. On. DRUG. Laws. Click. Click.
Click. Click. Click. Here's an excerpt from a show called evolution of the blues. Don't ask me why they're called the blue. Collar but I still don't know what that. This guy is from the blue sky. Think about it. Even the blackest black dog get away from the word from on high. You have to be. Is it any wonder we
get blue as that great American philosopher. You better stop that. Better at it.
That's. Right. But. Doo doo doo doo doo doo
doo doo. Oh. Oh do be. Do you know who to be. You can hear them in D U U U U U U U U U U U DO PEOPLE. Do you do you do. Do. You.
Know. Who. Folks love one another. Now. You. Oh.
The. Girl went on trumpet singing bang here is currently touring with John Hendricks and company. Just the gals there were girls to work with and I till right now I am sitting with another one of my guest this evening Rocky Robins Rocky it's good to have you back a long time since you've been since January I think since you're here and we're here but it's always a pleasure to be back with you not to it wasn't the last time I was here we released my second album you and me. And as soon as I finished the show I went out and did the about a two month promotional tour and then I came on for about a week to rest and get ready for the next album which is out right now I believe in
love. And we were in pre-production and you know actual work on the album for about three months and that's been off for about five weeks. Did you get the record contract in the first place. The original record contract. Yes it was really a blessing. It was back in 1978 and the times are really really hard because disco it hit everybody in town and all across the country. And it looked like things were really bleak and I needed some kind of shot some kind of exposure and I couldn't afford to move my family out to California so the next best thing was to you know put a tape together with the help of my friends back here and we put the tape together for songs that I did send it out to for five record companies and while there it was it hit just like that and it's amazing. But I want to get out I think it's all made excellent progress thank you for saying what are you what are your plans coming up now are you going to stay with a group for it or
work with the record as far as another tour or promotion. Well right now like I said the album has been out for about five weeks and I'm just waiting for the call I'm getting ready to start my first national tour which I'm really excited about. And about three or four weeks we hope they like it's a win for the call my lawyer in the agency or working with the record company and getting all of the you know finances and all the details lined up. Where did you find. The crew back here tell you there are some very talented people that I've had a chance to work with over the years in Minneapolis and St. Paul and oftentimes it's all local people and we had a chance to do this. The show tonight and so we got together we had a great week preparing for it and even greater doing it. That's when I start announcing I'm going out with you on tour. We're talking about Ricky Petersen and Josh for sure going to go out with me and then there's some other people that have plans so you know would have to wait until things work out. Because you are from here in the Twin Cities area rather
than I would think would be easier for you to be living on either one of the coasts as far as work and recording goes because you do record on the West Coast. Well I think one of the main reasons is sitting around to the top of my son. He really gives him a chance to stay here and and not really get that involved in the in the business because I know this is a big change for him. And I want him to still be able to understand that you know he has to get his education and do that. I think Minneapolis Minnesota is a beautiful place to do that. And besides I have some real capable people on the west coast handling my business for me so it allows me the freedom to get away from the rat race and just come back home and what you're going to do right now is the title song from the album believe in love. I'm going to take this opportunity to introduce the band members you will not see them but it's up there. Who else is the drummer and guitar.
We're.
Not done. Lay me down. They. Don't pick you back. We will be featuring Albert
through the night tonight. However. The production of too.
