Description
Description
From orphaned days on Harlem streets to the upper stratosphere of musical fame, Ella Fitzgerald's life was the quintessential American success story. Through 58 years of performing, 13 Grammys and more than 40 million records sold, she elevated swing, be-bop, ballads and the blues to their highest pinnacles. AMERICAN MASTERS was granted exclusive access to Fitzgerald's estate to make the first full-length documentary portrait of the legendary singer. The Grammy Award- nominated film, narrated by Tony Bennett, features the most Ella Fitzgerald performance footage ever compiled, showcasing her inimitable voice gliding through such standards as "It Don't Mean a Thing," "S'Wonderful," "Lush Life," "Sweet Georgia Brown" and more. In this account of her life, friends, colleagues and family provide better understanding of the shy human being behind the vocal chords. The film also spotlights her exciting collaborations with Bing Crosby,Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Durante, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra.
