Description
Musician Wynton Marsalis discusses the fundamental principals of music, addressed to a live audience of children, and with the assistance of his jazz band and conductor Seiji Ozawa and the Tanglewood Orchestra. In this episode, Marsalis explains form and structure of music, and how understanding these bases of music can add to the enjoyment of listening. Starting with Profokiev's classical symphony and the sonata form, he moves to other forms using the music of Gershwin, Ellington and Ives. With models of malls and skyscrapers, he introduces the chorus format, 12-bar blues and 32-bar song.
