are you i know or the greatness of this music certainly wants the pride that mozart and self expressed about this particular work during his travels mozart also engage in another one of the towns which was letter writing most of us as parents must be satisfied with these four five line communiques from our sons or daughters which really give a little more except that they are
still alive but mozart's father was much more fortunate his son wrote hundreds of letters in his lifetime describing his travels his experiences places you've seen the people he met and of course the musicians he met and heard now it is relief from these letters that we know so much of his life and not the least important of all the details of the things more thoughtful this father about his own compositions the first performances and the reaction of the public the quintet with who we are flying now is no exception to this in a letter to his father who was that time in south born in seventy four mozart wrote on piano just after the first performance of this work he said i myself consider it lead
best work i ever wrote in my life how i wish you could have heard it and how beautifully they performed now this letter reflects the pleasure of mozart had been writing his father the second movement the slow movement begins with a beautiful song like simplicity and moved later into a period which is perhaps one of mozart's most profound moments others again

springboard for his inspiration and he soared to great heights as we all know this technique was not alone other composers viewed by and beethoven included beethoven with borrowings stem from his intense light of competition and also from his enthusiasm for other composers probably even more enthusiastic about ivan than mozart one of the finest examples of imitation is beethoven's imitation of mozart piano quintet that overrode a similar piece itself or sixteen in which uses exactly the same instrumentation now the last movement the days mozart piano quintet is a wrong though with a wonderful commander for all the instruments and also a piano for the operatic excess where we all seemed to be steeling

- Description
- Episode Description
- This episode consists primarily of a performance of the Mozart Quintet for Piano and Winds (oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon) and includes some discussion of its impact on woodwind music. The beginning, however, is built around pictorial montage set to music that dramatically describes the influence of Mozart himself on composition for woodwind instruments. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
- Series Description
- In this series, a famous group of professional musicians traces the development of woodwinds in music through discussion and performance. Everything concerned with woodwinds from model of the earliest instruments to techniques of playing modern compositions is covered. Mostly, the episodes consist of approximately three parts performance to one part discussion of history and technique. However, the series also includes interviews with prominent composers and musicians and employs photo montages of famous composers during the playing of their works. The series was produced at WHYY-TV in Philadelphia. The 13 half-hour episodes that comprise this series were originally recorded on kinescope. The Philadelphia Woodwind Quintet, organized in 1950, enjoys an international reputation. All the members occupy the first chair of their respective instruments in the Philadelphia Orchestra and all are members of the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music. They have appeared with great success in cities on the East Coast from Massachusetts to Alabama and also in Iceland. They have performed on radio and television and record for Columbia Records. Members of the Quintet are: Robert Cole, flute; John de Lancie, oboe; Anthony Gigliotti, clarinet; Sol Schoenbach, bassoon; and Mason Jones, horn.
