things like this. What is it and I think I've got a phrase that I don't tell me corny. All right here tonight folks we're having a quote is that corny. Certainly is too original a great wrong and Mary Ellens of West Frankfort thank you for your $25. Dr. and Mrs. Clarke green send us $25 and just say have been found OK well if you're having fun out there watching a couple more and they will have to get back to Jack on that burns in Virginia from West Frankfort they sent us $20 there like for Jack to play Red Sails in the sunset. Bless their hearts go way dismiss Paducah say it's their 30th anniversary and they want him to play tonight. We love it. Happy Anniversary All right we'll go back to Jack Stalcup over in the ballroom and we will see a little later there because we want more contributions from you. We're back ladies and gentlemen we're back once again and on with our
request program and we've had several requests here for the St. Louis Blues bill and Alice Townes Hsu from Bellville Illinois went to St. Louis Blues and Dorothy mall at I believe it is from Greenville Illinois. St. Louis Blues. But I'll tell you our arrangement of St. Louis Blues a little bit shady so I don't really wish to do good on television. If you excuse us for tonight we only do it when we get to the crowds that are a little bit rowdy. And they appreciated little more and I don't think it would be suitable to put out over the air. So we're going on with a request we had a long time ago and I misplaced it and I still can't find it for south just so you th south. You are. I am
with you anywhere. I am with you that you with your with you with the at
3. Here's another request for New York New York. And her
and her. Yeah
I think that was her. Heh heh heh heh i AM I
AM I AM I AM I AM I AM. We had a request here from Syria to begin a West Bank for the little shanty out on the back of the lot. We cannot do that but the television crowd I don't believe a request from Lucy opossum worth from all in a deal on oil for the Tennessee Waltz We've already played that I believe and we have a request here from Arthur sac burger from Carbondale and she's giving $10 and she wants to hear the medley we play. I've left my heart in San Francisco. Alley Cat Josephine and does your heart beat for me
in a medley there and then we have a request here from Norman and Norman Lewis I believe it is from Cartersville Illinois. He pledged $25 and he wants to hear skirts so we'll get those in good spirits up there that many. Another request here from Gene white from West Frankfort a pledge for $25 It was here in the mood. Jeanne we've already played in the mood. And then one of the requests are from Boma for Topi from Ralton Illinois a pledge of $10 wants to hear Mack the Knife. We've already played Mike and I for it in the evening and Robert from Christopher pledges $25 he wants to hear south we just played south just a few minutes ago. Robert and a request from Pete sang hi of Christopher Illinois for my hand
for my daughter Diane. I'm sorry I don't know my man I don't believe we have that. All right here we go with the medley. I Left My Heart In San Francisco. A. And
I can't. Everybody
likes to eat. And now you're firing me.
Our own home town.
Thank you. Thank you very much. Waiting and ready
in the lake of Egypt $25. I am. Yes
it's skirts every quest year for Mood Indigo and Judy bell from Duke Cohen and they have pledged $30 and they want to hear Mood Indigo and we also have a request here from Betty and can press would of do call in Illinois and they pledge $25 no one hear sentimental journey will get to it in just just one moment. We told you earlier we have nine hundred forty one playable numbers here on the stage and sometimes you know some are a little bit ragged and the numbers get
faded on them and the fellows in the band have a hard time finding some of those pieces once in a while. And I can't blame them. So here is that request for Mood Indigo Incidentally this is one of the Duke Ellington compositions along with his sophisticated lady we played earlier this evening. I think that Duke Ellington is one of the greatest writers music writers and one of the greatest composers and arrangers in America ever produced and he wrote some fine songs and that sophisticated lady that we played early in the evening that was his composition and this Mood Indigo is a Duke Ellington composition of anger. OK
Jack come on down here one more time we will say that Major funding for this special event is provided by a grant from Baldwin piano an organ Center 200 North Park Avenue in Heron. Again Jack we want to thank you for the close of this night. We want to thank you for joining us. And again congratulations on your 50 second anniversary. Thank you. Pleasure. Good good good I say some things are. Before we quit I would like to acknowledge that all of your crew here your camera people and your engineers and all of the people involved in this I know there are students here
and one of them took me down into their room where you have the taping you know and play the tape back. The tests of our band and I want to say and I know quite a few of them are from Chicago weren't they. Yes some of the seniors but we've recorded in studios where we didn't get as good a job of engineering as we've gotten here tonight from the students. Thank God I went down the room with them heard them play back what we were doing and it was exactly right on the nose or ever instrument just like it was supposed to come out and for the boys and girls from Chicago we're going to play our arrangement of Chicago when we go back up there. Let me quickly thank the language playing riddles of the pardon of the editor for setting this whole thing up here with the all the decorations and making this look like a ball room. Mike blank from the student center. Joe Crippen of course studios. Dean Brown of the School of Music and Bill Barrows of course from Baldwin
piano and organ many who have underwriting this fortune and who have set up in the lounge you know the entertainment over there with Keith Pierce Linda Martin from across that great beautiful cake of yours. And also Mike sultan of the radio station you at them for his help in the sound and the audio and it's just been great. To all those people we're going to have to get back to Virginia. You want to say something before we get over to the other side again I want to tell him that my hat represents our sister station in me. Tell us how you 16. A lot of people are watching from up there tonight so again. Yes. I know plenty of requests from Jack it's really been great working with you again I know Virginia feels the same way brings back the days of the Egyptian ballroom of the purple crackle and all those radio shows we did and I'm sure the next year. How about that we can do that. Let's hear from Jack stuck up what he's saying. Exactly thank God. I'll say one more word.
Some people asked me tonight what has been the biggest thrill of my life time in the music business and I can't think of all of them but I can think of a few of them the first time that we had our first trip to Roseland Ballroom in New York City back in the 1970s. I always wanted to play roles when I got to play there and it was a lot of fun and that was a big thrill to me and then the first time a Governor Thompson was elected governor he had to play for his inaugural ball in Springfield and the second time that he was elected governor he had a supplier for an auger well in Springfield and it was the first time in the history of the state of Illinois for either Democrat or Republican had a bandleader from southern Illinois ever played for an inaugural ball. OK David will you tell us about that. One more time number you're working. Well
everyone of all of them. I didn't finish the work around. I
am doing it. Time
for a special request. Yeah
here it is. I'll
see you in my three years. Now
this everybody is saying they're all together. Show me the way and go tonight no rain tonight and chorus voice saying show me the way. You do love me.
Ha ha I am so wrong. What I would like to do is when it comes time to say goodnight everybody. We want to thank all of you folks here with us this evening. We certainly enjoy trying to entertain you. We've been joined entertain you and we appreciate all of the requests your Senate and your donations of money and that is appreciated by all of us in the bandit's reshoot and greatly the people here at Southern Illinois University and channel the lax time we see you. This is Jack Starr and his band. Wishing you all very pleasant good night pleasant dreams will be our pleasure to see you again.
