- In this season of Science in Action series is a resumption of up-to-date reports on scientific work hosted by Dr. Earl S. Herald, Curator of Aquatic Biology at the Steinhart Aquarium. Guest scientists, who are experts in the various subjects, join Dr. Herald to tell of advances in their fields. Dr. Herald concludes each episode by introducing the animal of the week. Accompanying each of the 25 minute episodes, NET distributed a four and a half minute script from Science Service which contained late news in the scientific world. Stations were given the option to plan on a brief live telecast in which a station staff member read the script. Each episode allows time for this just before Dr. Heralds presentation of the animal of the week. This episode Dr. Heralds guest is L. W. Corbett, Manager, Garden Seed Division, Northrup-King Seed Company. They show different types of seeds and display a model of a seed with markings of basic characteristics. They tell how hybrids are developed and how vegetables have changed in the last two decades. There is a discussion of seed cleaning and planting. - Series Description
- Science in Action provides reports on scientific research in geology, biology, physics, medicine, and other areas. It consists of 4 seasons of half-hour episodes produced by the California Academy of Science. The first season (13 episodes) was initially distributed by NET in 1954. The second season (13 episodes) started in January 1955, and the third season (6 episodes) started in April 1955. The final season (26 episodes) started in February 1957.
