Description
Episode Description
Left to wander in the desolate forest by their greedy stepmother, Hansel and Gretel find that their trail of breadcrumbs has been eaten by hungry birds. When they come upon a candy Castle deep in the woods, it is not long before an evil Witch and her servant Vulture have the children in their power. But the children are saved from being turned into gingerbread by the appearance of their father and the Silver Minstrel. The Witch is turned into gingerbread herself, the greedy stepmother driven off, and all live happily ever after. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
Series Description
The world-famous Salzburg, Marionette Theatre was founded in 1913 in Salzburg, Austria, by Anton Aicher, descendent of a line of puppeteers going back 200 years. The repertory of this distinguished puppet theatre consists mainly of Grimm's Fairy Tales and the operas of another renowned Salzburg personality, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in performances for children. When these episodes were produced, the company was still an Aicher family enterprise. Its director was Hermann Aicher, who was assisted by his wife and their two children, Gretl and Frick, who between them sometimes manipulated up to twenty of his two-foot high, stringed puppets. The 4 half-hour episodes that comprise this series were originally recorded in color. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
