Description
Episode Description
A maiden named Rapunzel who has wonderfully long, fine-spun hair is locked in a tower by a wicked witch. Every evening the witch comes to the tower and says, ?Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.? Down comes the hair, up climbs the witch. One day a handsome prince observes the witch, hides behind a bush and hears all. He soon outwits the witch and all ends happily. Series Description
The world-famous Salzburg, Marionette Theatre was founded in 1913 in Salzburg, Austria, by Anton Aicher, descendent of a line of puppeteers going back 200 years. The repertory of this distinguished puppet theatre consists mainly of Grimm's Fairy Tales and the operas of another renowned Salzburg personality, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in performances for children. When these episodes were produced, the company was still an Aicher family enterprise. Its director was Hermann Aicher, who was assisted by his wife and their two children, Gretl and Frick, who between them sometimes manipulated up to twenty of his two-foot high, stringed puppets. The 4 half-hour episodes that comprise this series were originally recorded in color. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
