Description
Episode Description
Through the memories of living friends and associates, and a presentation of some of his poems, the life and work of the great American poet Hart Crane is evoked. Among the participants are Samuel Loveman, Isidore Schneider, Sue Brown, Charmion von Wiegand, Malcolm Crowley, Waldo Frank, Gorham Munson, Slater Brown, and Peggy Baird. From his birth near Cleveland in 1899 to his death by suicide (leaping from the deck of the Orizaba ship off the coast of Cuba) in 1932, Hart Crane was variously a copy writer for J. Walter Thompson, a resident of Brooklyn Heights, and author of The Bridge, White Buildings and many unpublished poems issued after his death. He is acclaimed by many critics as Americas leading 20th Century poets and the inheritor of the tradition of Whitman. USA: Poetry - In Search of Hart Crane is a National Educational Television production. 90 minute episode. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
