- Respecting and responding to the needs of young children is the focus of this episode. Family Counselor Eda LeShan and some parents of preschoolers describe the joys of sharing a young childs first look at the world and the dangers of overprotectiveness in this first part of the two-program series on children between the ages of two and five. The sharing puts you in touch with something deep inside of yourself that is the child, Mrs. LeShan encourages. Other issues touched upon in this free give-and-take on the joys and traumas of being a parent of a two and five year old are shyness, expressing anger, fright, vulnerability, and discipline. The parents agree that, over all, before they can treat their own children as real people they must come to terms with themselves as human beings. - How Do Your Children Grow, with Eda LeShan, is a series of 70 half-hour episodes dealing with the problems and rewards of child raising. Mrs. LeShan is the author of "How to Survive Parenthood," "The Conspiracy against Childhood," and other books and magazine articles. She has been an educator and counselor for more than 25 years. How Do Your Children Grow is a production of WNET-TV, New York City. The series has been made possible by a grant from The Helena Rubenstein Foundation and each program opens and closes with this credit. It was originally recorded on videotape.
