- Description
- Episode Description
- Product of a brilliant and renowned family, novelist Aldous Huxley reveals to interviewer James Day how his upbringing in the intellectual atmosphere of the Huxley home influenced his early desire to become a biologist. Blocked by a partial loss of sight from continuing his family?s scientific tradition, young Aldous learned Braille and turned his talent toward literature. In a discussion of his work, Mr. Huxley talks particularly about his prophetic novel of a future utopia, Brave New World, and compares it with Island, his most recent book. He also discusses his interest in drugs as they are used in the treatment of mental illness and as an aid to creativity. KALEIDOSCOPE: ALDOUS HUXLEY: a production of KQED, San Francisco.
