Episode Description
Georgia Brown, who has been called the Maria Callas of the jazz scene and the girl with the white-hot delivery of the ice-cool lyrics, sings the music of German-American composer Kurt Weill in this hour-long performance program. Mr. Weill is best known for his musicals such as Lady in the Dark and Knickerbocker Holiday, for songs such as the standards September Song and Lost in the Stars, and for his association with playwright Bertolt Brecht in The Threepenny Opera, and Happy End. Miss Brown is the British singer best remembered by American audiences for her Broadway appearance in the musical Oliver. Veteran actor Harold Lang provides occasional links between performances telling the story of Weills life as written by Adrian Mitchell.
