- Description
- Episode Description
- Jerusalem, both the old city and the new, is now the center of the nation. After a brief visit to Jerusalem, the camera takes viewers to a number of new towns that sprang up from nothing more than sand and huts. The growth of Beersheba, a city of 50,000 settlers located in the Negev Desert and surrounded by Bedouins, is detailed. Beersheba is a blend of East and West, of old and new. Then in Haifa, an almost entirely western city of 150,000 people located on the slop of Mount Carmel, the viewer sees the heart of the nations heavy industry and hears the citys mayor outline his method of fighting juvenile delinquency. - Series Description
- The five episodes in this series deal with the state of Israel: its condition when it was founded tin 1948, its growth, its new cities, its ability to attract and to integrate people from more than one hundred different countries, and its future. During the series statements are made by Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, Minister for Agriculture General Moshe Dayan, and Minister for Education Abba Eban. The episodes are, for the most part, voice-over documentary. Between the series being produced and the initial broadcast, the resignation of Prime Minister David Ben Gurion was announced. Israel: Land of Miracles is a 1960 production of the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. The 5 half-hour episodes that comprise this series were originally recorded on film.
