Description
Program Description
30 minute program, produced in 1970 by NET, originally shot on videotape in color.
Program Description
This is the companion piece to the opera The House of the Dead. The moderator is Peter Herman Adler, music and artistic director of the Dead. They will also discuss the validity of cutting operas for television viewing. They will express their attitudes toward culture centers in America. And they will comment on an excerpt from the December presentation of NET Opera Theater, Hansel and Gretel. Mr. London is the artistic administrator, John F. Kennedy Center, Washington, D. C. During his singing career as a noted basso, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in Aida in 1951, and was first seen at Milans La Scala a year later. He is perhaps best known for his part in the title role of Boris Godunov, which he sang in Moscow in 1960 and has since recorded. Miss Davenport has been a regular commentator on Metropolitan Opera broadcasts and is author of such books at Mozart, My Brothers Keeper, and The Constant Image and Too strong for Fantasy. Produced by NET, New York City. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
