Episode Description
The Stratford (Ontario) National Theatre of Canada, famous for its annual Stratford Shakespeare Festival, brings to television one of the most highly acclaimed of its recent productions, introduced during the 1968 season at Stratford. This is the first of several episodes in which NET Playhouse will present some of the great theater companies from around the?world. The Stratford "Three Musketeers" was produced for television by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which calls it the "most complex and spectacular" dramatic production it has ever undertaken on its own. The play has 69 scenes and required 33 scenery changes. There are 14 separately staged fights and/or battles, says the CBC, "and the entire pace is lightning fast." The cast contains 44 performers, most of whom play the roles they had in the original Stratford production. Some performers play more than one part.?"NET Playhouse Presents the Stratford National Theatre of Canada: The Three Musketeers" is a presentation of NET, produced by the CBC in Toronto. Producer: David Gardner. NET Playhouse executive producer: Jac Venza. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
