- Episode Description
- Mr. Fixit shows how to start a collection, whether it involves stamps or butterflies. He explains the best ways to add to it and the best ways to take care of it. On Meet Mr. Heat, Pete and Brian learn how thermometers work and how liquids respond to heat and cold. Sports Studio presents the well-known dilemma: to share or not to share. In Jimmys Own Basketball, Jimmy learns that its more fun to play with a team than by himself. Mr. Fixit: Produced by WCET in Cincinnati, this series shows how to manipulate and maintain the things with which we work and play, such as phonographs, cameras, and fish aquariums. Each segment is set in a shop where a repairman, played by Glenn Rile, fixes and explains various items. Occasionally he has a guest whose work is involved with the segments subject. Meet Mr. Heat: Produced by WGBH-TV in Boston, Mr. Heat is the flame-costumed image of Ruth Ann Flaherty, superimposed in miniature of the set. By demonstrating why and how heat affects gases, liquids, and solids, she explains the basic qualities of heat to two boys, Pete Bradford, 12 of Andover, Massachusetts and Brian Foley, 13 of Newton Massachusetts. The series is designed to create an understanding of the ordinary application of heat. Sports Studio: Produced by WOSU-TV in Columbus, the series emphasizes sportsmanship. The format is modified animation. Drawing serves as the basis of the story telling. Mrs. Marion Renick, whose childrens books have been published by Scribners, wrote the stories. Jim Heck, a teacher in Dayton, Ohio is the host. The script is read, off-camera, by various youngsters. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
