Description
Episode Description
In Part One, Cachelin, Pitolet, Boissel, Savon, Rennes, Lesable and Torcheboeuf are all workers in an office in the Ministry of Marine. Cachelin is a middle-aged, money conscious man with an eligible young daughter. Pitolet and Boissel are practical jokers who use old man Savon as the victim of their pranks. Rennes is a lady killer. Lesable is a young ambitious career man, and Torcheboeuf is the department head. Lesable aids Cachelin in securing a pay raise and in return receives an invitation to dinner. At Cachelins apartment Lesable meets Cora, Cachelins pretty daughter, and Charlotte, Cachelins wealthy, aging sister. Lesable discovers that Cora will someday be the heiress to Charlottes fortune and proposes marriage. He is accepted, they marry and just a short year later Aunt Charlotte passes away. Lesable, Cora and Cachelin all impatiently, yet optimistically, anticipate the reading of the will. In Part Two, Cora, Lesable, and Cachelin attend the reading of the will and hear, as they expected, that Charlotte has left her fortune to Cora. But, Charlotte has inflicted just one stipulation. Cora and Lesable must have a child within three years. The news is upsetting, but everyone realizes that here is sufficient time. However, time passes and no child. Lesable goes to a doctor. Rest is advised by the doctor. There is still no child. Lesable begins to worry about not being promoted. Torcheboeuf tells him that since he received the inheritance he doesnt need a promotion and more money. Lesable reluctantly reveals the conditions of the will, his failure to comply with them, and his need for the promotion. Soon Lesable is the laughing stock of the office. Quarrels break out, Lesable and Rennes quarrel; Cora and Lesable quarrel; Lesable and Cahelin quarrel. In Part Three, specialists and their advice cannot help Cora. Lesable forgives Rennes for his heckling, invites him to dinner and Rennes soon becomes a good friend of the family. Torcheboeuf gives Lesable his promotion. When Lesable comes home to Cora with the news, she greets him with better news, she is pregnant. The inheritance shall be theirs. Lesable should be happy, but isnt, not until he finds out that Cora despises Rennes and has barred him from the house. Now everyone is really happy and this is apparent as the story ends in a festive christening party held in the new house that Lesable and Cora have bought with their hard earned inheritance.
