Description
Episode Description
Revolutions do not happen overnight, nor do they occur without a long period of conditioning. This program seeks to sketch the background of the independence movement which hit the Latin Americas in the first quarter of the nineteenth century: the intellectual revolution in Europe, Anglo-American and French examples of a break with the past, unrest in the Latin American colonies, the events of the Napoleonic Age which directly influenced and set the revolt in motion. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
Series Description
The Latin Americas, produced by KETC, St. Louis, seeks to explain the background of the colonial experience of the areas which in the early nineteenth century became the Latin American nations. Attention is given to the conquistadors, the world from which they came, their exploits of conquest and exploration in the Americas, the colonies and societies which they established, and the movements by which the several Spanish and Portuguese provinces achieved their independence. The series was coordinated by William Lesko, produced by David Lewis, and directed by Don Salper. The Latin Americas is hosted by The Rev. John Francis Bannon, SJ. The 15 half-hour episodes that comprise this series were originally recorded on kinescope. (Description adapted from documents in the NET Microfiche)
