The goals of archaeology have varied over the centuries and today theres much debate over what purpose it should serve. Organizations such as the World Archaeological Congress are dedicated to furthering the field of archaeology, while at the same time protecting cultural heritage and cooperating with local and indigenous communities.

Freedom Foundation, Inc Excerpt from February 27, 2007 interview Prince among Slaves airs tonight at 10PM on WTTW Channel 11 This week on public television youll hear the remarkable story of Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim ibn Sori. In 1788, he was a young prince from West Africa. Rahman led one of his fathers army divisions. After it lost a battle, Rahman was sold into slavery. For more than 40 years he became the property of Thomas Forster, a planter outside of Nachez Mississippi. Late in life, Rahman made an appeal to the Sultan of Morocco to work for his own freedom. The Sultan encouraged U.S. President John Quincy Adams to act on the case. Then Adams and the American Colonial Society made a deal to get Rahman his freedom as long as he went back to Africa. Prince among Slaves is the film that tells Rahmans story. It airs tonight at 10PM on WTTW Channel 11. Artemus Gaye is a descendent of Abdul Rahman. Hes now head of the Prince Ibrahima and Isabella Freedom foundations. Gayes family fled the civil war in Liberia and he now lives in Chicago.
