- Michael Armacost, U.S. ambassador to Japan, in a recent address to the Commonwealth Club of California entitled "The U.S. and Japan--Myths and Realities behind the Relationship." Before becoming the ambassador to Japan, Michael Armacost served as the ambassador to the Philippines from 1982 to 1984 and was then the undersecretary for Political Affairs at the State Department. He is the author of "The Politics of Weapons Innovation" and "The Foreign Relations of the United States."
