You. Do. You. Do. I January the 16th 1919 to recreational habits of people across the country changed the 18th amendment barring the manufacture sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors became part of the US Constitution and Wisconsin more than just social activities changed a major Wisconsin industry had just been declared illegal. Throughout prohibition Wisconsin beer giants like Schlitz PAP's and Miller survived. They sold soft drinks near beer and malt extract for home brewers. The industrial victims of the 18th Amendment with the small breweries and it seemed like every Wisconsin town had at least one. One estimate said that six months after the amendment passed 137 breweries had closed in 1932 Wisconsin Senator John Blaine introduced a constitutional amendment to Repeal Prohibition one year later the 21st Amendment was ratified and a major Wisconsin industry was legal again.
