I this point in time in our current households today we have the enormous influence of the mass media and radio and television being brought to bear on children at early ages whereas it was the personalities of a small community that were brought to bear on our own children in earlier times. education are offering young people today is relevant and helpful to them to the problems of growing into being a productive adult. I think that our education in trouble now when you take teachers you're going to strike doesn't represent a good beautiful cultural relationship and they feel you know. Rebellion against I guess you little culture is lots. If I say the establishments where people do we are taught by the way people do it more and more there by books and in the way people do. and India. freedom to to follow his own. To follow his own inclinations and perhaps to waste his time in ways that he wouldn't if he were more tightly controlled by older people. Where would you come down in this controversy. Wish time issued a bit on that. Perhaps that's what some people say. Description
Dick Meisler, Professor of Philosophy, interviewed Arthur Morgan (1878-1975) at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio on August 16, 1969. Meisler introduced Morgan as a radical who was forced to leave a number of posts and organizations because of his views. At 94 years old, Morgan still worked 12 to 15 hours a day. Besides working on a book about the History of the Corps of Engineers, Morgan still headed the Community Services Incorporated an organization he founded 25 years ago to secure low cost housing for senior citizens in the Yellow Springs Community. Morgan answered Meislers questions about what he thought about a number of social issues. For sixteen years, Morgan served as President at Antioch College until 1936 and started the Co-op program where the curriculum required work experiences in conjunction with the course work. He designed and supervised the construction of the Miami Conservancy District flood system as a result of the Great Dayton, Ohio Flood in 1913. President Roosevelt appointed him a post with the Tennessee Authority. Morgan was interested in progressive education and founded a number of settlement schools. As a community organizer, he worked on projects and started organizations that improved the quality of life for all citizens living and working in small communities.
