- Episode Description
- An Indochina Peace Campaign was held at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio on September 29, 1973. Some of the speakers and music performances included: Tom Hayden (b. December 11, 1939) spoke about the peace movement. He was a social, political and civil rights activist and made several visits to North Vietnam and Cambodia as a peace activist. He was married to Jane Fonda. Robert Chenoweth spoke about his experience of being imprisoned in the Plantation Gardens prisoner camp outside of Hanoi. After returning to the U.S he faced courts-martial charges for failing to obey an U.S. officer and cooperating with the enemy. Air Force Colonel Theodore W. Guy, who was also a prisoner at the camp, filed the charges with Defense Department. Jean-Pierre Debris, a French teacher, spoke about protesting the Vietnam War in Saigon with his friend Andre Menras. Both were arrested and served two and half years in Chi Hoa Prison before being released on December 29, 1972. Retuning to France, they wrote a book titled, "Escape from Saigon Prison: Exposing Crime." Holly Near (b. June 6, 1949) a musician, performed a music. Jane Fonda (b. December 21, 1937) an actress and political activist, spoke about the peace movement.
