Description
The second part of an interview with Dr. Carl Wooten and Dr. Marcia Gaudet of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) conducted for Ernest J. Gaines: Louisiana Stories. Wooten and Gaudet co-authored the book Porch Talk with Ernest Gaines: Conversations on the Writer\0xFFFDs Craft in 1990. They discuss Gaines\0xFFFD integrity as a writer; his major theme of survival with dignity; the effect of teaching creative writing on his work; his place in the tradition of folklore and oral storytelling; and their visit with Gaines to the Quarters, his birthplace and the inspiration for the setting of the majority of his work.
