Description
Description
A program documenting the unique style of Louisiana politics beginning with the election of Governor Huey P. Long in 1928. It explores the intersection of politics and entertainment in political campaign rallies and advertisements; the tendency of Louisiana voters to elect colorful, populist and oftentimes corrupt governors followed by one-term reform governors who are then replaced by the populists once again; the effect of the mixture of ethnicities and distinct regions in the state on political campaigns; the rise of the importance of African American politicians in New Orleans and white supremacist legislator David Duke. This program includes archival footage of Governors Huey Long, Earl Long, Jimmie Davis, John McKeithen and Edwin Edwards.
