In this episode of the series "Enviro-Tacklebox" from September 24, 2003, host Greg Grandy and the student reporters explore hypoxia, low oxygen levels in bodies of water. They cover: eutrophication; phytoplankton; zooplankton; hypoxia and anoxia; the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico; best management practices for farming; anoxia in the Long Island Sound; and the water quality of Chesapeake Bay. They interview: Quay Dortch, an oceanographer with NOAA; Mac Felton, microbiologist; Frank Hall, a geological oceanographer with the University of New Orleans; Nancy Rabalais, a marine biologist with the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON); Robert Holmes, a hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey; Michael Kinner, a farmer in Illinois; George Czapar of the University of Illinois; David Niebuhr, an oceanographer with Salem State College; and Robert Diaz, an oceanographer with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
