Episode Description
Children visit Jeremy Martin and his central Louisiana farm family. Jeremy raises pigs, turkeys, horses and prize-winning sheep. He explains that family members each carry responsibilities on a farm, and that he's proud to help. Britt then travels to Opelousas for a trip to the Palace Cafe and a visit with a Creole heritage storyteller. There's even a little folk medicine in this visit!
Episode Description
This episode of the series "Gumbo Island" from 1997 features host Britt Henderson traveling around the state to learn more about Louisiana's farm families. She visits Jeremy Martin at his family farm in Glenmora, Louisiana, where he raises pigs, turkeys, horses, and sheep. Britt also attends the LSU Livestock Show in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and meets with Jeremy as he prepares to compete in the sheep competition. She also talks to Dr. John Sullivan, the livestock show manager, who discusses the prizes given out at the show. Lastly, Britt attends the LSU Rodeo.
