- This episode of the series "Louisiana Legends" from May 26, 1996, features an interview with Archbishop Philip Hannan conducted by Gus Weill. Hannan served as the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of New Orleans from 1965-1989. He also served as a chaplain in World War II and delivered the sermon at the funeral of President John F. Kennedy. He discusses: his decision to enter the priesthood; his education in Rome from 1936-40; the experience of being a chaplain during World War II; the moment he realized he was going to be the Archbishop of New Orleans; his first impressions of Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Betsy; Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II; meeting the Kennedy family; President Kennedy's assassination; his eulogy at President Kennedy's funeral; and the funerals of Robert F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy.
