Oh. The men from the United States. Jesse Jackson this is the man the media and political analysts call the most electable candidate in the race for the White House. Yet his support seems to grow with each passing caucus and primary. We'll look back at the first two games in an hour here in New Hampshire with the thought the odds we've been winning uphill battles. I rise to the class that I can and announce to you this day my decision to seek the nomination of the Democratic Party for the presidency. Of the United States. Of America. In 1984 Jackson made history simply by running this year. Jackson is making history by winning. Winning the support that is of voters beyond his black face. We shall. See.
How I think Jackson personally. You know the strong you know Jesse Jackson I believe. Why not. Seriously why not. In places like Maine Vermont and Minnesota to name a few voters have looked beyond the pessimists and cast their votes for the candidate they believe in this man the one experts say is electable. I think it's time they quit saying that. All they're doing is trying to build a negative image and I think that's wrong because so many people say it there must be something obvious about Jackson that makes him the most electable candidate. Maybe it's his views. Challenge to face the fact it doesn't make sense for us to be over the top in the. Office on energy in the Persian Gulf. Almost half in Texas Oklahoma and Louisiana. You ought to have a policy in this country ever you. Mind to learn the will to have the option of going to college. I believe in the strong the facts. Always correlate with needs magination. To the defender says we must
fight to feed the enemy and protect our interests. Reagan's budget does not do that. I just thought maybe. Problem is he can't change a skin color right. He can't go back and pick his parents on his ancestors. None of us can do that. If the issue is my race believe that the God that he or she is not with that just leave that. To the American public. You talk about a lot of things like the rest of these guys are afraid to talk about you know but the fact of matter is a Jackson trying to convince you know the American people that he is something beyond just a black candidate in getting through the media coverage of him as a black candidate. It's like taking a rowboat up against the limits I mean you know the guy's got no shot. He just can't break through and I don't think that's fair. But I think that's the reality of the situation. Jesse Jackson may be labeled as the most electable candidate. But more and more voters see him as a winner. OK. OK. OK. Yes. Well the kind of clock news I'm Marcus Jones. OK.

- Bernadette Devlin McAliskey (Irish Republican activist) holds a press conference in Boston as part of a 13-city tour of the United States. Devlin speaks about her recent candidacy for the European parliament and says that her speaking tour is intended to help defray debts incurred during her campaign. Devlin's campaign was organized around a human rights platform. Devlin notes that international organizations have condemned the human rights abuses in Northern Ireland but that the United Nations and western countries will not speak out against Great Britain. Devlin expresses cynicism towards politicians and doubts about an American political response to the situation in Northern Ireland. She equates the oppression in Northern Ireland to the inequalities that exist in the United States and notes that Irish Americans engage in oppression of African Americans in Boston. Devlin compares the dearth of Protestant support for her cause in Northern Ireland to the lack of white working class support for busing in Boston; recounts the history of the Irish conflict from the Irish elections in 1918; and discusses changes that must be made by Great Britain in Northern Ireland. Devlin discusses her activities in the years since she left parliament; the use of violence by Catholics in Northern Ireland; the death of Lord Louis Mountbatten (British official). She accuses the international press of hypocrisy; answers questions about her speaking schedule and her life in Ireland.
