it's been and it presents a conversation across from today is to be named caches marcellus clay jr in his business was prize fighting as a fighter he became in my opinion and certainly in his own the rates at the age of twenty five now he calls himself mohammed alley and he's unemployed is a fine stylist got ripped away by various boxing commissions in the name of patriotism he's been sentenced to five years in prison for refusing induction the united states army
eight years ago he stood on the podium in rome an american flag boy in the breeze the star spangled banner being played he was given a gold medal at an olympic champion people thought here's a kid with a bright future and he was known as the so called credit to his rights he had talent in the ring and he had maybe more talent outside he loved value he loved putting on the nation with a great put on that he was the greatest he maybe was the greatest poet since robert frost at least he had more of his poetry published saying it more must go in for things like that but then the day after he became champion he turned off a lot of the country by revealing that he was a convert two religious sect known popularly as the black muslims and formerly as the nation of islam and that antagonized a lot of the american people so not his principal role is as emotional minister is out of varied career an exciting bizarre celebrated career and now perhaps a discouraging career or is it
discouraging right now there's five year sentence force health problems mr of the most of the creatures give speeches and enjoy this month marks an authentic not to the box to this or what was your feeling as a correct oh yes not at all they could come up with options that people now you know a few years and it's thought about jail what it might
mean he talked about people than in jail five years and no well we'll talk about black people actually do for foreigners were about silver foil leave them all leaving elijah muhammad is the messenger of the no greater than that so tencent tulip time comes i'll just have to go boys in vietnam went down for what they believe in a king get only on foot down for what they believed so i'll just done to free font people ten thousand miles away slow this episode so that so called negroes could be freaks selected a violent image they can look up to that didn't sell amount to more people like oh yes there's a report that your manager herbert said all else can then everything i do is of my
income and doesn't want to the report came out that report was only a paper about two weeks ago now are going this is real table even on the strong recovery which we can put through him and let's take a moment now to work in america with government even more work and we're strong and shakes up a lot of people see in a strong also makes a little going to grow strong facing the same problems when this week for more from our people that never had a big black man stood up and identify with a struggle of its people a thousand percent was taken given what white girl obama bruno oh mullah omar show on broadway usually given in to watch the show and i will tell you that you can talk to him they are too big to be with their own people legal marijuana grown catfish council had been proud to become great in boxing to become the greatest wonder heavily of great evocative live on the first one that they have to take a ton of carbon is to all of the great white and
blue american title and the first one that they chat to make the world believe that one the champion an art if you're in jail five years well i don't know i'm not really one of the box in the mormons the spiritual works that elijah muhammad preachers preach and warlock forget about sports is not an ongoing arrest makes no more they make a vicious eelam now and fish will only for a reason this keeps me from the ambitious film don't miss that i have nothing else to gain upbeat the best german at all for the best candidate and off putting on the estimate that awful to tell you a nice big old world champion a youth champion twice olympic gold medal won out defendant kind of mankind's predictive the romans omar points total points in point fashion it would fall into those
and i cannot go no fault in sports and for some nothing i'd say i'm the oldest black man that black people can now say heads the champion of like a lot of samos out this undefeated still joyous came back he led people down he gets the jewelry was a black pride and they get him the help from the forest wants to stay in this is a conflict now you're saying mr is there a conflict between that and be a price well yes we'll don't believe it so easy don't believe in sports network we don't consider box in the violent just spoiled or another he'll always has a fierce repair that we have refried the rights and tensions to be the man appointed and on that christmas now hurting investors first because of a larger show is in the
fight but if i give five pm the reason would be opposed to get out get this enormous way that i have to make guesses a monthly payment of bodies which helps two hundred miles but it's better to have a thousand us justice calls them up and then other thing is that alimony to the wife because we're about to purchase more effective fight the foibles reasons this box himself aka bob tomorrow i'm just going to mention the box three years ago we were going on the way from boston big read your great bus with the brow otis five x was writing again you said that's why he's get the back of the bus which we do and then i just you know you had all this on the mind all the pressure you it would be put on the dracula masks was sorry in one of your tracks and we knew we had a great time up there and people who know you and you've got a lot of criticism in the press people live with you a new you
i knew what kind of person you were on you enjoyed the people being allowed to another audience celebrity you enjoyed that you miss that oh no as i said i can't go to like and global box and there's no one i could be so could get more present in a box that will always still around people of libya for six of them traveling with him in a day in the city are good people we forgot just left for college ball mit mit university was saying we have a white audience yesterday were our goal we look at fairleigh dickinson a new york's ego the polk salad university the nation's universities and all can stay in or more in state college it's going to be with the only a syllable not boxer didn't take nothing away from his fast lane smith's people and always go here now that we've got a necktie and i can tell you will sparks will slowly great moral issue may even the ones
fighting they can tell so i have slot last fall but also arcane just as questionable at escape this is a rally in that like we're on the boss when you leave you didn't know it just got to not do it first to multiple recalls know until i went in first amendment says this was even forced li says a lot of sales and it's easy to say if you're following martin luther king people like that in iran into violence in their role in that image this is there's something about this and a feature that much to push out of dishes or why bravo keep you love theres a possibility of no milkshake you won't go back to the good people spit at it and i'm sure so most people don't take me to the vacancy and i'll
say well you don't have to be sick mentally to walk forty seven the places where you see the agency long watered down a lot of the moment we're going somewhere to our awesome as we speak but tell us about the most of ours i said that the one you'll remember this very well sonny liston the big oak there's a column savage quarter put to you you became champion of the world everybody thought this is a refreshing i always wondered what was instrumental that was trained violinist and sons to solicit mom and didn't raise no fool example you must do
so the next day when everybody was saying the best thing is a refreshing your most of the people that's been lots of debts and you know now as a political analysts hollande it on the greek is it cannot be beat i am pretty economically yells boy morgan summits and talent to the will of god along and islam all means peace entice a mission and we don't believe and force themselves onto wants to know why why hasn't grown up is a skinny girls to keep them in common the court's liberals were made to love that image of the appraisals need some liberals made me over and saw think it made people think that we are a group that's right but we are white white people we know what we know twelve people for example if i take a broken this room now
i would be for a rattlesnake you cannot beat you did not dissipate i don't hate rattlesnakes artillery died of that just know what came after the natives laden the table tray and he wouldn't sleep because i know that it might bring me so now i don't think that we can ever go on that we should point out whites and blacks cannot get business and they chose this gets worse every day the latest government fact very committed to say that things are becoming obese or just to choose that as black and white as we didn't have the separation ellen goodman is the best comic white women and get gone clothes all accomplished another shoot black targets and santa's thinking goes that issue and make walls just the good grows and in the legacy of mayor daley chicago i think some that are helicopters us not just with the words voting machine guns on foley so you know people

Description
Muhammad Ali, the former Cassius Clay, finds his new role as a Black Muslim minister more satisfying than his former one as a boxer because he is now working for others and not just for himself. He has no desire to return to the ring and beat up his brother or someone else's brother since it is against his Black Muslim faith for him to participate in any "vicious" sport or any other sport. His only reason to return to the ring would be to rid himself of some $250,000 in debts for alimony and costs involved in the legal case coming from his refusing induction into the armed forces. Boasting that he is still the "greatest," he cites as evidence the crowds of people who wait for him wherever he appears as a speaker. He says that although he has been stripped of his world heavyweight boxing title because of his religious convictions, people still know that he is the "greatest."Contrary to popular opinion, he claims that the Black Muslims do not hate whites - that the hate image is just propaganda to discourage Negroes from becoming Black Muslims. Since it is the law of nature, he says, that blacks and whites will never be able to get along, he believes that Negroes should form their own society so that the Negro will not have to depend upon the white man for anything. He praises former Alabama Governor George Wallace for "telling the truth" and sharing Muhammad Ali's own views that the Negro has no place in a white society. Moreover, he deplores the actions of Negro militants, saying that it is absurd to fight a heavily armed and numerically superior society and compares it to a brave bull making a head-on charge against a freight train. His hometown of Louisville he finds "too slow" for him and terms himself a man on the move, laughingly adding that even if he were in jail, he would try to work out some kind of "moving plan.""A Conversation with Muhammad Ali" is a half-hour National Educational Television presentation, produced by its Boston affiliate station, WGBH.
