for mccain auditorium at kansas state university kbr presents an hour with this anthony foxx i'm kate mcintyre percent if not served as president of mexico from sea thousand to two thousand six he was the first person in seventy years to be elected from the opposition party breaking the one party rule of t r i the institutional revolutionary party but says the second former president of mexico to get the landon lecture enjoying the number of latin american leaders who have spoken at penn state university and now here is the thing applause ms lytle interview is the one that is here with me which is mark o'mara dear wife michael my
professional associates the women are wearing for the first time right you have your home you're invited to come close to the prisoners were likely to extend their open arms to welcome all of you about the stance on enchiladas three goals we are partners says united states and mexico
because we've been friends that we're neighbors we need and ray different from ourselves to know more about all of our mutual nation's economy is that it is very important and i'm very thankful that i was invited to come here today as the fed because the fed before i start putting some ideas new relationship so we've got a bill that the united is that symmetrical with the united states in latin america i think it's also lost their import oh what i
would give permission as a funnel for the better but when it does its value because for me it does and all those wonderful wonderful mexican people nearby simons are here working in this great nation so then my respect then you might know the un in some for me all right because you were gone from somewhere liberal nation this great nation
has been built by immigrants among them my young from the botswana became promised us were german cincinnati the eighteenth century several working hard trying to do better for their funding and then my grandfather lived in nineteen ninety five decided to sell out and riding cross crossed mountains warner says if any of the border existed and he said oh plus immigrants
in one of the political field you were as a medic and he was going from the heart of the united states you know value which right away gave seven precedent for this nation and just not five so it was a cultural region really get into our cultural vision down to mexico looking for work without updating it in his pocket instead of working as a night watchman in this factory and in daniel's like working actually going to manager and two years later the owner so he want a piece of land in the heart of mexico for this is that they came on the
local authorities to everyone the dream of america's democracy and this is where we share you know latin america is why i might buy some austere and is why i want to sell or rent his mission is building walls this is their leading measure of the world to deny mentioned crawford with all respect why why
every been going to prevent future working to raise those would not associate in our cells north america and nixon didn't fit we've been building that many people is not very well informed on but i know the united states and mexico is the largest in the world of film whip out about trade imbalance for girls we import from united this week mexico will import more products and services they want
france germany and britain and free or four hundred and video you every stage hundreds of thousands of jobs for us citizens family for a more just longer the association they made more so competitive they're most competitive and largest market in the world we're going to read the united as
a major goal was really warm and when the same the european union now with it in a different country is united in one purpose which is your new novel which is economic development which is progress and prosperity in what quantities their faithfulness intro will only thing they liked ryan's depauw france or the brow germany for the brow family wisdom and admission to us with a board members like spain greece portugal ireland twenty five years ago not even three thousand
iu a loyal republican they are winning joyous a paper cup go more reporting thousand you slide right here in the capital is greatly offended being working together to fine of fallen sachs recently stated by year two thousand portable their largest economy in general would be china now the united states anymore so china will order while the size of the us economy you know this is will be a second job prime minister today boys boys
according to warm and socks is going to be the largest economy in the world the right mexico and flips they're going in that role for mensa group of eight the seven largest exporter of growth in services in the world affairs from mexico used to have a pickup it ain't go twenty five years ago or twenty five hundred us dollars fourteen years ago it was only three thousand of those surveyed just over a thousand us dollars and it is going to be a good show not in nafta fossils that's what makes you who has been able to progress and to move ahead and i know we
the problem without violence but we're working hard to build a nation on the principles of the founding fathers of this nascent democracy but you know local authorities to advise which ryan hard to do our best and as many many many mexicans have not found a known open for you know a man from various are going to have to say goodbye to them or worse many of your ancestors knew the song made in france germany and ireland or somewhere there's none were approved
for sale my point of view migration is a massive and migrants in a very special task of people fourth course of course i am not for open borders and not for people to go to the united states for just because of bad trade recently in tribal rhythms all more sign for him or written is you is you i made sure that we decided that we put our version to make it a win win situation long past week rob the admissions as long that without order as long
as we plan for the future what we want to do and speaking about mexico and united is that right now there is a proposal that is in your view is congress not a derisive visual very intelligently support this is the game in the mud being built for new immigration reform to a very simple thing people are worried so what is giving then the job for so much as a car and then from somebody needs them
for us was going to grab the apples for horizontal harvested vegetables and forty four horizontal drilling or a corner store it's people being young people all to limit the name ipad i was reading on the news this morning a fabulous about how people coming this year of fasting iran's than there was last year for tissue to understand is the market is huge fees the supply and demand is huge feed their tourists here people come people here don't want to take some jobs a
lot of people want to bathe though both are limited for number two that is in bad proposal in congress for a bill and iran are also this morning in its report that the economy needs additional five hundred thousand new workers every year and few jobs that us citizens are not providing for a job that are needed to the economy so this second point of those live audio they already us is long past and that's the last the amount all people needed by the
economy that will be open jobs will flood the estimate is half a million chris for every year according to the proposal is to determine how many and where it would become and that they're born how to do with your mind's eye or migration breaking farming is a criminal lawyer i think it's a rumor that and it's ok kong living the family home canning perrella job earning some money and then go in by the human aspects of migration is considering the proposal i think it's a great proposal and be honored that we need to do is sit down to meet you and so
it was it makes it was not doing anything wrong it's people to give him an opportunity there and used to just grow andreas of three and four percent a year to make a bubble bobble three times during the twentieth century from the beginning of the century to thirty six million to seven million one hundred and five million in one center will never happen again because now the rope and it pours more than one percent so where was tossed a hand thirty five million mexicans one third of the size of the united states a hundred and thirty five million mexicans and that's a flip
flop person pyramid stoessel w two thousand thirty five when there were low and then it fanned be we'll be absorbing most of our energy can be you can be hard working and the quality and the productivity of the great effort the visuals are going away than the richer bring mexico united states in training we have a common problem of fuzz to the whip drugs and again that was doing the juarez mexico going to prevent adults from coming to the united states of fear we say what is the united states doing to prevent some from abroad so bad
we discuss producing prominent as fast or go to mexico coming into the united states we will have a problem are you sure more world for awhile people feel some of these men some of them public servants government some of them members of the cocktails line
goes the more successful we are and reframing the board whether they're more cocktails and the criminal organizations and from all that throw a moment your and neck so the very beginning that it was only operate so chances a drop in their own pentagon for abusing drugs finn now makes cigars are consuming public three drug trafficking for both him and consumption so we know what is your responsibility to work on this and his partners from happening supporting the fight against israel if i go to mexico in colombia when they
don't forget about the guy who's you know maybe we'll talk again rachel chinese related things that has to be drawn one question we ask ourselves with all respect once the ball crosses the border of a chicago market this young market and we're marking one access the money the money that comes from the bronx we mentioned mara the operating here in this
mission orders was how you explore in some of your poems you here dry to bribe public officials that is very difficult because a boy is ninety minutes ago was making somewhere around six hundred tomorrow eight hundred dollars a month ago this awkwardly commander heroes of ten thousand dollars a year gross your arms a fork twenty five thousand lawyers and you had me bring in that brought them here or a hundred thousand borrowers and you wrote this about a foot right now where they're going they wore lipstick french border without precedent the government
feels a joy ride a car bomb that a strong got there and the germans unfinished for drug cartels in mexico and drug trafficking in mexico from where all have worked in where president made about dream come through we will make sure that we will make it because it will be for the better because it would lead to the bottom of our relationship between mexico united states and because it will be better for it there were doing our job if it was a it was about not an american students cheer and by the way coming doctor university says there were justices like
mcchrystal spring were you when the bomb than it is to us all right because this is a universal is what universal think you were pretty certain that it's what the environment was the best human being can find in the human being there when it is in the proper environment universes our program are in the states by being here but i want to tell her students are still do in my normal person who's an expert give me a lesson in egypt
is known about the morals i learned about the germans were i learned about the russians probably stop the germans about iraq and the decision right there is a history in latin america the twentieth century a very recent history and what happened then called century more nations in latin america where you have significant force and remember the new data dictators in brazil imagine three nine shootings of the border and we've got our work in cologne they were called the century we did not hobble lehman and bullied by democracy and if it was not
what we saw or is it and governments we had in mexico and finally at the very end of the century we woke up and we decided that we wanted to leave my democracy until the parade organizers ideas about open market policies so the report compete globally and we met that challenge and we do it in the eighties and the nineties more so every nation in latin america and dependable secure with fear was the only one of the rest will we wanted somebody of the twentieth century with venerable proven that was we cut pork and thus it said while their
environment for human beings our best old rashad jennings in the environment working forty market economy responds and the wearing of the work i'm working is simple and we also advise by this israeli permit information open your markets throughout the rain and us investment to mexico and judy rusher leavenworth or in your market to do a benefit and for renewal in our markets and revered man magan goes very painful economic reforms during the madness
in america and fast date we know when automated cars that the marker simply don't work for a market economy produces and reduces work fine increases or what we know about now and in the now six years that in a midwestern region has been growing andres close to six percent for girls for the region and for decades in fact is that we have not a real focus on in business yemeni leaders who were jealous that you're dreaming about it would be faster with hidden costs more than twenty percent of the lights or there's any best the oil money runs mccabe
people's money just had to cut out one thing he's tried to do that i says this is the marine leaders printed in lebanon it goes if we don't we are working on the environment for we start again beyond the story for cheating to people didn't know where to fish on his job teaching about intervening in northern nations and fizzle out and omitted the house too good it's papa straight for the future than i am absolutely sure that this point the borough's center while chris century when we knew women
and formation of our economy to our businesses than ever that we're forgotten remembering author reading important things for develop from a one vision for what we're spending in the next generation not how i met munzer that thinking how world dr rios and for the challenge to develop fuel natural that our governments don't like to talk about and all those three don't want to go talk about compassion committee and this world
needs more to more compassion and more more loyal because much of it is used to say you gain respect by an excess power says is the more credible the present like your europe plenty masculine or europe you would say you gained respect by now the way you are dan the world when this line we win this war and that is why in the warble central park the first president to live or ever in mexico and latin america is being marked by
myself and in our warrant when biden on forty individuals when biden forty couple home and we make sure that that why women are so with that decision without the ocean are hoping that when and how second winner of the twenty percent of the medical sports this century old latin america to have to work our whip up to associate with a minute read this great nation and i tried to go out of the leaders of those nations like a lot for the dreams for the farm father for billionaires of the region's kamau for those moving idea of like the marshall plan you would not being what in this debate if it were not
because of the marshall plan that came from the great nation and its neighbors bound for germany was to stop what the president kennedy alliance for progress in all of latin america political openness rule of how social discourse are problems and conflicts to us or shade to build the most of the women and the longest day and the bridge and successful just one cell we all depend today whether god until mid july the third depends a lot like you vince a lot of years and that is that it depends a lot
on the market in china and a peaceful situation in china yes or their emissions the band a lot on the success of this mission for much else so we're listening to this anthony fox former president of mexico keep giving the one hundred to the fact that landon lecture at kansas state university authentic thoughts now takes questions from the audience because it involves things in his speech and my name is mary had their summer thing is obviously and i am a mexican woman and as a mexican woman i am very worried about the situation for women is you that what this white woman government have the person being able to stop these atrocities what other steps that have been taken in order to stop these situations being to lose but you all about those problems were coming
right now where violence and the more there is a very specific path for this war and that is when i met one of the waters of moral for yourself which of the neighboring cities and it's the coast right there where the drug and what it's trying to solve the territory is right now the most complicated but we caught in this one it's a moment then says it again we have this idea with us security authorities in the us government that is a joint responsibility and we're working together in the world and we're working together you know the charter bus i said we're going to win maybe not saying about the end of people's lives
we begin to see light at the end of the bone but right now we are on the various moments major publicity and more but i'm a person can buy five s i said before we were working hard we proceeded to cover art is working hard to defeat organized crime a normal okay thank you overhear please hello my name is heather words i imagine your employer of science and i really appreciate your lectures day now my question to you is what is the status of legislation or a new character a situation of children born in the us undocumented parents typically in the field of education but the question is that for children who are born to undocumented parents can you speak on legislation or the situation i specifically and education for those children of the poor
that is why it's so important that we try to quang wooden pegs and solutions for that is you can bring in violence in order for the situation of course the bulls many times reporters her thrown away from the kids as they hear or vice versa so ominous of being broken and the balsa so calm martin and myself what's going on at that they were having a meeting like this and one is still in the end of the presentation on the q and a
session swallow wasn't the law the story about this little girl on document it needed no sympathy their car announcement that he would not cite any course people there who's unemployed you would not to attend because he was very moment mark the most overt the rich islands or trying to solve a problem like old woman might perform for a phrase maybe right up there news reports god there are half a million us dollars needed for that besides finding who were close
to him and the next day in the morning there were two hundred thousand north dollars altogether and many prominent of the rest will come so we immediately move the embassy to washington and it's unfortunately the children's ward in iraq said i don't care if they don't bring back to hear what would not charge anything to make their car why weeks later we came and visited the little rock arkansas precise they were importing this so the governing body because they have not found yet the car and it did for him to stay alive and more who have gotten by doing this while they were
operating making the surgery at the moment we went in seeking and they're right there on the surgery who became our ally not only without the town to find how fortunate events to grab a cart appear he drives plant based company geely bought made us and mexico to provide ice in your boss like all the people of silence on you postal team one man is difficult to have an ounce of approximately one percent ms rivers i study law washburn university it plays an of my question is what north american union which was signed in nineteen ninety five and which would unite of mexico canada and united states and you know
one single on the splitting of our ideas and the question is is how how true is that he's so like how your he's your new cd she would introduce enough time has been very very successful ones the pots to go further and further integrate math and it's a lot more barriers no more duties we just exchanged rockets and we're doing pretty well united states exports <unk> political mexico nevada next step according to my point of view would lead to develop a costume to because right now with the fate and they put in a mountain village is so where's the
story or something do you know who might be charged and been presented by the proclamation would be judged in two percent so the prior work on through mexico and then from a typical none of that war were going through the matter's there's an inbound to mexico if the opposite was this list on the rise or do you use or through all the math out there so we want to find a bison in a bunsen <unk> integrate the success of europe besides the marshall plan if you look at this concert for short lived here europe provides two percent of their gross for our caucus admits wrong couple
he's in this for you by government has two percent from each one of them that in some mentions a mouse over a hundred billion you about one hundred million us dollars a year is invested in four regions on average us or characters and education and infrastructure this is why dr lenz this is the day that was the jet announced progress and supplies because they come up to be yours that morning to forge the process of developed a reporting and we should note that would do more to this then the money invested on the wall no
security and more children are invested money we don't have to solve the problem of the border so why will customers so offended in a car but this notion of a call president reagan with filming of the berlin wall and shouting aren't clear mr groucho all his will for juvenile building walls between mexico and united states we're sure did talk to president reagan has begun to say i really appreciated its like to know what programs your administration
the game that are be continued in the present an inspiration for the chiapas region to enable the zapatista zapatistas enable them to have their civil rights their land rights so these folks are not happen until into the civil disobedience which is that some folks are claiming they're terrorists other folks are claiming they're freedom fighters that's an argument that goes on what's going on now in mexico george martin yeah within a medieval mosque will vote for remnants of the cost of government and
there's a criminal on the idea that somebody would that at a minimum of time and comparing prices have the euro which was what ten years ago or less than that addressing this audience is the former presidents before it quote where she was pretty strong and the opposition party and morsel of he's very wise for the conference we review the wrong thing five personal filings for farmers and mythical founder wanted to overcome because of their own efforts because of the hard work and
it's like because all the stability of the economy companies because israel it's when i was a tremendous president think that israel with over five hundred and ten what it going was around twenty percent interest rate when i think that israelis were being delivered it's all united on the range of six seven percent which is what they ought to do it so we have a strong showing oh the coming after that most of the economic fundamentals are in line with eu is for rhymes like to say well it makes it cool only half of the population have access to a social security system or a medicare system here is your bowels or hear a lot of claims that
the health system in this nation is not universally fifty percent of people or farmers went out to pitch in one word it would raise eighty percent of people and that includes a very universal health care or medicines for him is continuing with the administration in congo and these is a civic duty officer and it's helping them out in particular to help them better themselves and get them out of the situation power so for the first time i got the rise and the remarkable to
go from job to open the circle and we the armed guards surrounded my call to congress and make many people thought it was a mistake it was the water was high risk to pull him out of chiapas and they came all the way working from chiapas to mexican congress that he address makes writing though us and that democracy was a map of freedom coalition was an act of releasing the shore i still think some shoppers are useful to that accent if you're against the recall fight or three every year and destroy everything in southern niger were raining there a lot of europeans live in new orleans now
when we get plenty of both and the rest is visible right leg wears yellow wop workers here means for tuesday so it's because you were writing this book the senate said it would have been associated with the green party week's top presidential candidate i am so you favor and you say out loud helping prove that their relations says the
mexican states it was great to really being on the election is so great to show no real power issue all of us and the rest of the world i'm in a very much sure the market for an anti obama your wisdom of course in the world to just pick something called a baby and it's just really it's really think that this is going to enhance
the democratic aspirations of many nations and has also been a more crowded many nations for what the room this is a good example of what they needed to be always showing always preaching to the rest of the world we miss that great big issue and we need it back and build these words of a service first few were not have any moral one single leader and the work flow more about that night when it happened and more about leaders speak to building the world we're one and the thing is we are all leaders who are you are you are you are we are all leaders were leaders or were like
leadership is weeping ourselves but we need to know our cells the government issued as a way of life and we need to exercise of the bishop finn that's what central seoul about associated with many many and rather than those of its own throughout the world we're remembering him singing from receiving high school in rural areas of mexico and years ago opened up you never know or sell and exercise meditation and the bodies were buried and that's not been the top and western europe not here
this year received through exercises of democracy promotion by the us before returning here we have more of a few impulsive for more efficient and there's plenty of money this year in this year most of them will come the world changed the world only message that then above all of that you've been listening to dissenting fox former president of mexico recorded september twenty third two thousand eight at mccain auditorium at kansas state university it was a presentation of the landon lecture series and recorded by kansas state university it as i'm kate mcintyre kbr presents is a production of kansas public
radio at the university of kansas
