I think we're going to start a new tradition here, a tradition just in the hallowed traditions of weekend NPR productions. I think we might try a chain station break and just have every station that carries this program send us in their station break and each week we'd run it and talk with the person who did it. What do you think? Oh hello welcome to the show You know the landlord rang my front door bell I let it ring for a long long spell I went to the window and he threw the blind and asked him to tell me what
was on it by any say. If you want to stay here with me I was clean as a screen and so hard dress I call the man that I love best I finally got my baby about a half past three. He said I'd like to know what you want with me. I think you might want it. I think you might want it. I think you might want it. What do I say if you want to get along with me? He's going to stay and what's wrong with you From this day on our romance is true. I said help me baby, thanks to fail. Now I could Another gal came, I'm pleased. He said, run, run, and what's it?
Run, run, and what's it? Run, run, and what's it? If you want to get on with me. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Now I've learned my lesson, and now I've known The sun may shine and the winds may blow I say I'll have to say I love you, so I want my money Money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money If you want to get long with me, if you want to get long
If you want to get long, I ain't got any money I'll give them my life if you want to get them out of me Old buttermilk sky I'm a keeper my eye peeled on you What's a good word tonight? Are you gonna be mellow tonight? Old buttermilk sky Can't you see my little donkey and me? Whoever's happy is a Christmas tree Heading for the one I love I'm going to pop her the question That question Do you darlin' do you do? It'll be so easy If I can only bank on you Old buttermilk sky I'm a tellin' you why Now you know I'll keep it in mind tonight
Keep a brushin' those clouds from side Old buttermilk sky Don't you feel me when I'm needin' you most Hang a moon above her hitch and post Hitch me to the one I love I'm going to pop her the question That question Do you darlin' do you do? It'll be so easy If I can only bank on you Old buttermilk sky I'm a tellin' you why Now you know I'll keep it in mind tonight Keep a brushin' those clouds from side Old buttermilk sky
Don't you feel me when I'm needin' you most Hang a moon above her hitch and post Hitch me to the one I love You can if you try Don't tell me no lie Will you be mellow and bright tonight Keep a brushin' those clouds from side Old buttermilk sky Don't you feel me when I'm needin' you most Hang a moon above her hitch and post Hitch me to the one I love
I'm going to pop her the question Thanks for calling Wait on my calls like Now all you days With jazz and conversation From the foot of Mount Belson Sweet New Tonight the night is mine Late night Feel the sun go the sun The sky light I've got plenty of job
And just to feel cute But I feel like crying I wish I had a heart of eyes A heart of eyes If you wash your hand To look too far swell You must scream for that blue job Have a kiss and have a kiss and have fun Now all you days With jazz and conversation From the foot of Mount Belson
Sweet New Tonight the night is mine Late night Feel the sun go the sun The sky light You never believe it But once there was a time And love was in my life And sometimes wonder What happened to that thing The answer's still the same
It was you Tonight you're still on my mind Tonight you're still on my mind And sometimes wonder What happened to that thing The answer's still the same It was you
Have a kiss and have a kiss and have fun Now all you days With jazz and conversation From the foot of Mount Belson Sweet New Tonight the night is mine Feel the sun go the sun The sky light Well, listen It's speaking through here live Live from the Lachoyotorium Of course, we're taped delayed A lot of places now It's not really a radio show So much as a training program for NPR engineers I find
Although we finally got the people in Kenosha Straightened out But now Close circuit for our good friends At WUWM Milwaukee I've learned to call it Milwaukee already See how I do? It's okay to fade down the music And do the fundraising But Gee, I wish you'd come back to the show When I start talking You know, that's just a good broadcasting tip It's to, you know, Come back when the talent talks Okay? We'd be motion appreciative Thank you very much Okay, first of all, in response to a phone call And my own mortification really Because last week I made so bold Or so lack of bold As to waste valuable airtime here Talking about my problems With modern typewriters And telephones And shower faucet Things
And Gee, it seems so innocent at the time But then when they picked it up And re-ran it on all things considered I became aware of what a telephone call This morning Feared might be the Creeping Andy Runezation Of this program And its host Its attendant host And dog on it, that scares the Jeepers out of me So Let me just clear this thing up once and for all And then we'll be done with it And I won't talk about anything else in my personal life Ever again I'll just talk about big Capital B issues, capital I The new fangil electronic typewriter What it was doing was squeezing the letters together Towards the second half of each line With no explanation And no way of figuring it out And what it was was Batteries were running down And it has functions Functions at the Yin Yang, you know, if you want to If you want it to memorize And then rewrite your composition It'll do that It just has no way of telling you
Its batteries are running low They just, they forgot that one thing Okay? So that's the end of it No more about that No more complaining or griping And not going to be Runeized, okay? Thank you for your concern And the interest It's been an interesting week in Los Angeles Because as most of you know It never rains here But this week it rained And not only did it rain It rained in a fascinating pattern It rained seemingly The first half of it each day And then the sun came out This would be of no more than passing interest to the locals Except for the fact that it inspired And now I look in the direction of my announcer Bill Malone-Bill Another was show Right idea You know, as long as I'm giving these away I might as well frame them Thank you, Bill Here's the deal We know that Los Angeles has Aside from the gang thing, two major problems
Aside from the gang thing And the clippers, two major problems The weather, the smog, specifically The air pollution And the traffic, okay? Now we're building a subway here But nobody believes that anybody's going to get out of their car to ride it A, and B, this whole, you know, the traffic thing contributes to the air pollution Which makes many areas of the city unlivable So people have to live farther out So they have to drive more to contribute to more air pollution You see the cycle, it's created Now of course, when it rains here Rain washes away the smog We, Angelina, know this If it was possible to rig, I don't know, can we seed the clouds, can we do something like that So that it rained every day, predictably Between the hours of, oh, let's say, four and eight am So do two things, first of all, it would wash the sky's clean But more importantly
The one thing that scares people in Los Angeles about driving is rain If people knew that every day on their morning commute, they'd have to drive in the rain See because streets were built here on the assumption that it doesn't rain So why should there ever be drainage? So there are all these intersections that, that puddle up To put it mildly Now if you could count on that happening every day, by golly you know these people would Skidaddle for the subway We seed the clouds to make it rain every day from four to eight We solve the pollution problem and the traffic problem And ladies and gentlemen, you are welcome The sun is getting higher, think I'll take a flyer
The thunder is causing me anger Oh, shiny cake Take a walk over somewhere to see an old school channel When the shot before the show of the world has started falling When the shot's closing on it, every west is a team A hello, and now comes the rain Oh, shiny cake We're doing it down tonight I know some girls that stuff are poor Bites
Don't string through time I hide Don't string through time I hide It's fine, really fine, I know what it is for the life When the shot's closing on it, every west is a team A hello, and now comes the rain Oh, shiny cake We're doing it down tonight I know some girls that stuff are poor Bites Don't string through time I hide
The sun is getting higher, think I'll take a flyer The thunder is causing me anger Oh, shiny cake What you probably noticed, the virtual omnipresence of former president Richard Nixon this past week as he goes about the country Plugging his book There were a few holes in his media schedule We'll plug those moments from now and let's show I'm getting tired of this old ride
I'm getting tired I'm getting tired of this old ride I'm getting tired of this old ride I'm getting tired of this old ride I'm getting tired of this old ride I'm getting tired of this old ride I'm getting tired of this old ride

Hello again everybody from the fabulous forum in Englewood, California, the world's most beautiful sports theater I'm chicken to be joined shortly by my broadcasting partner for this year at Stoulant as we bring you the final game The regular season of the Los Angeles Lakers, the 82nd game of the season here from the fabulous forum The world's most beautiful sports theater But right now it's time for the final Laker line of the season Time for us to take your calls and we're so happy to talk to you and get your feelings about what's going on That's the purpose of the program Golly, we've had such great calls this year It's just been my pleasure and that of Gerhard Romano and Susan Stratton doing her usual fine job on the simulcast leg of our simulcast legs But right now we're on the radio and let's take our first call Hi, you're on with Chick Hi, Chick, this is Arthur from Marina Del Rey I cannot hear a word
Hello Hello Yeah, this is Arthur from Marina Del Rey Hi, Art Buddy, good to talk to you, what's up Yeah, Chick, I'm just wondering after a season like he's had and he's 41 years old If you really feel that Greenland Ultra Bar is contributing as much as he should to the Lakers Oh, for goodness sake, Artie For one thing, let's not forget This is the greatest score in the history art In the history of the game Wilt has done so many things So spectacularly over the years And you still see him double team dart Whenever he gets the ball in the low post And so to me to say that Wilt A cream that is not doing the job By Golly, Art, who would you have there? Wes Matthews at 6-1 And not even that really No, of course And I know you're asking that question
In just the best possible sense of interest for the team and for a cream But my goodness Art What a fix the Lakers would be in without the big fella anchoring the low post as he has for the past 19 years And what an accomplishment that is So that's just a ridiculous question, Art there But we thank you so much for asking it Pick a number now 2-18 2-18, do we have that? Do we have? Yes we do So Arthur, if the combination of the two teams scores today And by that I mean the combined scores of both teams equals the 2-18 You get the free Lakers Jacket Thanks so much for your call Art We really appreciate it Hi, let's go to Richard in New York Hi Rich Hello Jack, this is Richard Actually New Jersey Hi Richie, what's up? Well, you have to just say that these the pirates have just gotten off to such a tremendous start When the leadership quality that they're getting from some of the older people but also some of the younger ones too
It's very impressive, Jack It is Rich Basically Rich, if we could limit the conversation to basketball preferably professional basketball But what a game it is, you look at these players, you look at the talent out here Rich And my goodness, 15-20 years ago, no way people could compete on this level That's why you've got to widen the lane, don't you think? Well, as I have put it in my new book, the only way that we can win the peace is by not waging war And that's something I don't think either Bush or Dekakas at this point understands that maybe some of the teams in the NBA do I don't know Rich, of course, what I was saying before, is in no way intended as a slap in any part of the great game of college basketball Oh, it's come so far over the years, don't you think? Rich, pick a number
Quickly, my experience, the number is 68 That's very low You look forward and try to get some part of the game Okay Rich, we'll give you 68, thank you so much for your call Keep calling in, it's our farewell show here with Chick from the forum on the liquor line I can't hear a thing, I'm just... Susie's got a boy she lives and his name is Tom Betfleet
Susie's parents thinks he's nice because his hair is always neat and you can bet it will be the biggest night of his life Two kids out there and having fun until his son comes up in the high school sweater and a paper What could be wrong with that? Susie's just going out tonight Two of Thomas and she must keep She thought about it all last night and she was too excited to sleep And you can bet it will be the biggest night of his life Susie's going out tonight to a 16th birthday party because she's a pink addresses wife
And she's a beautiful sight to see and you can bet it will be the biggest night of his life And you can bet it will be the biggest night of her life Next a singer who never had a hit record until he had his vocal chords surgically removed Right here on American Top 40, meanwhile time for a special guest time with the caseer And joining us for just a couple of minutes is one of America's top 10 living ex-presidents Richard Nixon Mr. President, I don't imagine you get the time to listen to a lot of contemporary music But just as a story, the phenomenon of Tiffany must impress you Oh yes, when they first opened up, you know, everybody said, oh, they'll never last on 5th Avenue They have to move down to the jewelry district
Of course in those days the Democratic machine had such a grip on New York Not that that was such a bad thing of course compared with the energy that you have now Where it's pretty much everybody for him or her, him or themself But now let's look to the future As I pointed out in my book, the opening up of the Soviet Union to things like more of our movies Yes, pop music, although of course Pat and I prefer something a little bit more in the Indo-European tradition But that we shouldn't imagine that this opening up means that we can let down our guard, far from it Mr. President, if I can still call you that, one performer had three consecutive number one hits during your term of office And yet since you left office, this same artist hasn't even hit the Billboard charts Any ideas?
Oh yes, it's not ideas were short of Casey, it's tough-minded leadership Now, the caucus is very good, but not as a campaigner, and he's not going to win And Bush maybe has the toughness, maybe not But in any case, there are three people, he's a choose from when it comes to selecting a running mate And we're going to count down those three in reverse order, if you like, right after we hear from this week's number seven No, I'm sick to love, oh, I understand, yeah, now
I want all our store rather, they keep having me there, we also got a child's life I'm coming home tonight now, I want to save my life, I want to save my life, I want to save my life I want to save my life, I want to save my life
I want to save my life, I want to save my life No, I'm sick to love, oh, I understand, yeah, now I want all our store rather, they keep on having me, keep on having me I want to save my life, I want to save my life, I want to save my life
I want to save my life, I want to save my life I want to save my life, I want to save my life I want to save my life, I want to save my life, I want to save my life I want to walk down the alley no, shine like a candle like water, to build a future, I'll gather, I look like a Hollywood star
Woo, check out the toes, shoppers and nape, I wear Italian shoes, something to touch, always in style, I wear Italian shoes I'm gonna dance out on the snow, looking like Johnny Beagle, better be known, I'm sick to love, better be understood They gotta feel it, you know I love, I wear Italian shoes, something like butter, bit like a club, I wear Italian shoes Ooh, ooh, ooh
Yeah. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Something about me, the women all love. I wear Italian shoes. Something like butter. It's like a club. I wear Italian shoes. I got my pizza on the front. I stand about 10 feet tall. It never color. Only rainbow. Snake skin. Crack it down. Oh. Check out the toes.
Shoppers and knives. I wear Italian shoes. Something like touch. Oh, isn't style. I wear Italian shoes. It's Italian shoes. What you got here. I wear Italian shoes. I wear Italian shoes. I wear Italian shoes. I wear Italian shoes. I wear Italian shoes. I wear Italian shoes. I wear Italian shoes. They work. I wear Italian shoes. Personally, I would have preferred to feed sung that at the Oscar show, but hey, exposure. The network is exposure on the network. I know a lot of people were making sort of crude jokes this past week on receipt of the news. I know my assistant was one of them. Or people in her office were, I just to say, about the news that one of our great respected actors, James Garner, has undergone a quintupled bite. I personally don't, there's four parts of the, there's four arteries, right?
Or two major arteries and two veins. There's four things in the heart. So where do they get a quintupled bite pad? What's the fifth thing? Anyway, he had one of those. And of course, he's been doing commercials for beef, the beef board. Now, now come on. We're grown up people, we know that for, and he by the same token blamed cigarette smoking his previous cigarette smoking habit for his probable, the probable ethyology of his heart disease. Now, we know that the tobacco industry stoutly maintains that there is no scientific evidence linking cigarette smoking to either lung cancer or heart disease, the beef industry, the beef council and the meat board. Equally stoutly maintained that beef is healthy and does not contribute to any cholesterol or heart disease problems. I have to take those two industries positions that face value ladies and gentlemen, their respected members of the commercial community.
I think we have to assume that what happened was he got heart disease from taking too many polaroids. And speaking of the clogged arteries of commerce. Yeah, I'm going to read straight, stylish for you now. First from the supermarket news, branded meat challenge. A bigger cut. Who reads it for you, baby? Dateline New Orleans. Oh boy. They got me already with that one. Branded meat products now capturing only about one percent of the fresh meat market are pushing their way into more retail cases.
But a number of complex challenges must be met. If branded meats are to appeal to larger audiences. According to speakers at the Annual Joint American Meat Institute and Food Market Institute, meat marketing conference. In New Orleans. Oh, it'll be New Orleans and attending that meat marketing conference. Quote. Branded meat is cutting a niche in the meat case. According to Don Schroeder, Vice President, meat and produce operations for the Fleming companies. Branded meat conjures positive. Now branded, they're not talking about the cattle ladies and gentlemen. They're talking about, you know, you go to the store and instead of just meat. It's got a brand name, okay? Around the same way I'm like, now, thank you. Branded meat conjures positive safety images according to study results released by Fleming that claimed consumers depend on visual inspection. As the first determinant of food safety.
According to Robert Clark, Vice President of the Meat Division of Vons. Supermarkets. From a labor standpoint, our cutting tests have shown that one person can produce 250 pounds per man hour of boneless product. As opposed to 165 pounds of bone-in product per hour. And he can do it cleaner. Pricing of the branded meat product was one of the obstacles Clark said his chain had to overcome. Quote, you have to treat branded products as branded products. You cannot price them or treat them as commodity products because they aren't. They offer a value to our consumers and it is my opinion that consumers are willing to pay more for that added value. The Hitch Ranch beef brand offered by Fleming is creating increased impulse beef purchases.
According to Don Schroeder, who said consumers don't seem to mind paying more for a product they can trust. In fact, the pricing must reflect the value added aspect of the product to establish its difference from regular beef cuts, he said. In other words, he got to charge more for it or else people won't know it's better. I'm sorry for the other words, but sometimes this verbiage gets a little impenetrable. Said Schroeder, we believe branded meats are here to stay. I haven't deserted you. I was just looking for more.
There's more. Wait, there's more. From the media works section of advertising age. The launching pad column information on new publication launches. Festivities publications will introduce, with a June issue, festivity, a monthly trade journal for retailers of party goods. And health team communications introduced in February with litter issues. The magazines will be sent free to 47,000 internists and cardiologists.
