For weeks now, new cases of COVID-19 have continued to drop, but that appears to be over as the Joplin Health Department is experiencing an average of four new cases per day. This is Joplin continues to lead Missouri by percentage in the number of people receiving COVID-19 vaccines with 32.6% of the population. Joplin Health Director Ryan Talkin speaking Monday and a city council meeting, attributing the high rate of vaccination in the city to many factors. When we have a great medical community here, there's a quite a few community vaccinators out there now. We also have a lot of medical staff here within Joplin. Statewide, over 1.7 million Missouri residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while nearly 1.1 million residents have completed their vaccinations. A mass vaccination event will take place at Missouri State University in Springfield all day, this Thursday and Friday. For KRPS, I'm Fred Fletcher-Fierro in Web City.
