Welcome to In The Jungle, where we meet the grillers of Pittsburgh State University. I'm your host, Howard Smith, and today we are joined by Ali and Dane Ramzing, and you know what? It's exciting to have you guys in the studio today. Tell us first of all, where are y'all from? From Fort Scott, Kansas, so only 30 minutes away from here. Okay. Hey, Dane, how'd you guys meet? I saw more biology at Fort Scott High School. Was it instant? Instant attraction? There's a little loophole that held things up, and then it was fine after that. How long have you guys been together? About four or five years. Four or five years. So what's it like being a married couple and going to college? People would say it would be kind of hard and stuff, but it's great because you have someone right there beside you that's going through the same exact stuff. Has the same homework as like they get that you're stressed out because you have all this homework. We work at the same place so they get your work stress. And then just having someone to grow with through college and not just going out and partying all the time and stuff like that. He knows what I'm going through.
I know what he's going through and having someone there all the time to just grow with is awesome. Dane, tell me a little bit about how you got to Pits Day. What were you doing before you came to Pits State? Before I came to Pits State I actually lived in El Dorado, Kansas, and I was going to Fort Scott Community College all online for my first year of college. And then we decided after her first year at Butler that we were going to move home and go to Pits State. How did your online credits match up for you? Did that work out? Yeah, well I think all but one class actually transferred in so everything ended up working out pretty well. So that's one round. You kind of came a traditional round. Tell me about your route to Pits State. I went to Butler Community College my first year of school and I didn't really know what I wanted to do then but and I didn't know I was going to transfer anything to Pits State. I was just like I might stay at Butler for two years and been my second semester at
Butler. I decided I am going to go to Pits State because it will just be easier and I want to go to a university now just to get that university feel and stuff. So I decided to do that but I was in all I was in classes in the classroom every day and then I decided to go to Pits State and I was like I don't know if my transfer or my credits are going to transfer because I didn't know what I was going to do. Well I ended up coming to Pits State and I think almost all my credits did transfer over maybe but one but then that put me way ahead where some people come to Pits State and they're like oh I don't know if they'll transfer but Pits State accepts a lot of things and Pits State works with your schools a lot more than other universities I think so that was great. What's your majors? I'm an accounting major. I'm a management and marketing major. So you're both in the College of Business, Kelce College of Business. How has that been? That experience over at Kelce and he tell me a little bit about maybe some faculty or how has that experience been? The faculty is really great and they're really family friendly and everything and they they're just so personal and I thought it was going to be way different and you're not
going to get really close to your teachers and your teachers aren't going to really know your name at Pits State because it's the university and you don't really have that feel everywhere. Even at Butler I didn't really know my my faculty and stuff whereas Pits State I know almost all my teachers and they know me kind of and then some of my teachers are just really personal and they're they tell us about their family and then they ask about us and how we're doing and that's really great and that's what I've loved about Pits State because they know what you're doing and they know what you're going through and they'll work with you so that's great over there in the Kelce College of Business. It's been a really good experience and say like Ali said a lot of the teachers they know about us most of the teachers know that we're married because a lot of them tend to look at us in the hallways and stuff and I feel like they're the high school teachers that would check in on the students and the halls when they're dating but it's overall it's been a really good experience in Kelce. So being a married student at Pits State and you've mentioned that as family friendly what are some things that that caused you to consider as family friendly. A lot of the faculty they'll treat you like family I mean we're part of the an act is here and the the coordinators Suzanne
Hurt she's like a mom to everyone so she's she's really good. Has there been any faculty member in particular they would like to point out maybe had a nice influence or did something? Well I know Dr. Rosen he's just been really fun in my CIS class it's just a basic level course but he's been fun and it's an eight o'clock in the morning class and everyone's tired but he's mature to like get us pumped up for class and ask about our family and make sure to know he knows everyone's name and just goes around and really cares about his students and I really like the way he teaches. Dr. Bogg he's a management org behavior professor he has a really cool method of teaching since he uses most of his own work for like the textbook so it's zero textbook class class and just he's a really good overall teacher and he makes the classroom fun his personality is really great too. Hey tell us you know one of the things about being a married couple going to school. How's
your day tell us about your day when it starts and what goes on and how it ends. Well Monday's are pretty laid back like as a married couple I get him up at three o'clock in the morning to go to work which he does not like to get up in the morning so now you get him up okay just making sure I understand it's okay. I'll wake him up and so he'll go to work about 330 he'll leave the house I'll go back to sleep for an hour and I work Wednesday and Friday morning so Monday I get to sleep in a little bit longer and then I have a class at nine o'clock so I get up and get ready and go to class for an hour then I go to work from 10 to about 230 most of most days then our Tuesday and then Monday we get a relax after we get off work and do homework so that's mostly and then our Tuesdays are kind of hectic because I'll wake him up again at three o'clock he'll go to work about 330 and then he has to rush home um get ready for school and then he goes to school at nine and I go to school at eight and we're in school until three o'clock I think is like our last class um and then we go home and do homework the rest of the night and Wednesday it starts all over
and Thursday so that's our basic week. What advice would you give to a prospective student out there that would be considering pit state right now what would you tell them why should they why should they think about coming here? I guess not as big as you think it is going to a university it's nothing compared to like KU I mean I have no friends from high school that went to KU and they have classes with like 200 kids in them so it's a it's a lot smaller and a lot of the teacher will get to know you so it's a it's a real good university to go to if you want to start out at a university. I just think pit state the community itself in Pittsburgh is awesome because as we work at Bob's and you'll just see so many people there on Saturdays the days of football games everyone's in their pit state gear and the community itself is just so involved in the university and you don't see that other universities that's what I really like about pit state that the community is completely involved and it's just so family friendly like we said before and the class sizes are small like I went to Butler Community College and the class sizes are almost the same size so the teachers know who you are most of the time they know if you're
doing well in their class or bad and they help you get through their class. Hey and that proves why you belong at Pittsburgh State University thank you for joining us in the jungle I'm your host Howard Smith.
