- This episode is a reversion featuring segments from previous episodes as well as new segments. The episode begins with Civil rights leaders, which looks at leaders past and present, including Bayard Rustin and Keith Boykin, in a rebroadcast of segments that originally aired as a part of episode 503. The Outspoken reverend segment is a rebroadcast of the A day in the life segment about Irene Monroe of Boston, originally from episode 805. The Out artists speak out segment features Toshi Reagon, Pamela Sneed and Cherry Jones. The James Baldwin segment focuses on the gay author, which originally aired on episode 503. The In the news segment covers the Balm in Gilead organization's AIDS conference and Team Harmony VII. A day in the life focuses on AIDS activist Michelle Lopez in a rebroadcast segment from episode 602. The In the arts segment looks at the films A luv tale and Punks, while the A growing epidemic segment, taken from episode 803, is about AIDS in the African-American community.
