visual descriptions of smoke, fire and damage to the building; sound cuts out, track 2: and Mark Hilan wonders if WNYC is still on the air; cut to NPR news, including brief WTC report and national/international news report; There is smoke coming from the tower on the northern side of the northern tower, that smoke billowing out of the building in the upper floors. We dont have any word as to what might have caused this explosion this morning, but, again, an explosion at the World Trade Center in the northern tower in lower Manhattan, smoke billowing out of the building as we speak. As the details become available to us here at WNYC, we will bring them to you. It appears that there will be plenty of fire and police activity in that area. The Federal Reserve reported yesterday consumer credit, which, just like it sounds, is a measure of how much debt Americans are piling on themselves, during July consumer credit failed to grow for the second straight month. It is the first time thats happened in nine years and bodes ill for those counting on consumers to keep spending and keep driving the economy. On top of that, a survey yesterday by the National Association for Business Economics showed even the experts can't quite agree on when that often promised recovery can be expected to arrive.
