 - MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG APPOINTS COMMISSIONER OF THE DEPARTMENT OF INVESTIGATION AND COMMISSIONER OF THE OFFICE TO COMBAT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced the appointments of Rose Gill Hearn as Commissioner of the Department of Investigation and Yolanda B. Jimenez as Commissioner of the Office to Combat Domestic Violence. The Department of Investigation promotes and maintains integrity and efficiency in government operations. The Office to Combat Domestic Violence formulates policies and programs relating to all aspects of services for victims of domestic violence. Mayor Bloomberg made the announcement in the Blue Room at City Hall. "Rose and Yolanda have distinguished themselves in their respective fields and I am delighted to announce their appointments today," Mayor Bloomberg said. "Rose's impressive record as a federal prosecutor indicates that she possesses the skills necessary to lead this important agency and ensure that the City's government and its employees conduct the City's business with the utmost quality and integrity. Yolanda's experience in city government and law enforcement coupled with her zeal to come to the aid of victims of domestic abuse make her the perfect choice for the post. I am confident that they both will serve all New Yorkers well during their tenures." Prior to her appointment, Rose Gill Hearn most recently served as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division and Supervisor of the Crime Control Strategies Unit of the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Prior to that, she was an Assistant US Attorney. Hearn earned a BA in International Studies at Marymount Manhattan College in 1984 and a JD from the Fordham University School of Law in 1988. Prior to her appointment, Yolanda B. Jimenez most recently served as Deputy Commissioner for Community Affairs at the New York City Police Department. In addition, she was Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office of Minority Affairs, Director of Planning Operations at the New York City Fire Department, and Special Assistant to the Mayor's Advisor on Hispanic Affairs. Jimenez earned a BA in Political Science and Urban Affairs in 1981 and an MA in Political Science and Public Administration in 1982, both at Queens College.
