Description
Description
10/19/1969 SPIRO T. AGNEW: TRANSCRIPT: Education is being redefined at the demand of the uneducated, to suit the ideas of the uneducated. The student now goes to college to proclaim, rather than to learn. The lessons of the past are ignored and obliterated in a contemporary antagonism know as the Generation Gap. A spirit of national masochism prevails, encouraged by an effete corps of impudent snobs, who characterize themselves as intellectuals. (APPLAUSE) It is in this setting of dangerous over-simplification that the war in Vietnam achieves its greatest distortion.....There's a constructive program. What do the marchers and the moratorium offer in replacement of that? Nothing. Absolutely nothing except an emotional bath for the people of the United States. And this country can't afford to be torn to pieces by that kind of demonstrating in the streets.
