SCHUBERT: Symphony No. 3 in D Major (Adagio-Allegro - Allegretto - Vivace - Presto MOZART: Piano Concerto No. 16 in D Major, K. 451 (Allegro - Andante - Allegro) Richard Bishop, Piano INTERMISSION NIELSEN: At the Bier of a Young Artist PAGANINI: Violin Concerto in D Major (Allegro maestoso - Adagio - Allegro spiritoso) Ik-Hwan Baes Violin RICHARD BISHOP, who makes his New York orchestral dbut with these Jupiter concern, performs as a soloist and duo-recitalist throughout the world. His extensive knowledge of the duo-sonata literature for string, wind, and brass instruments as well as voice has led lo his collaboration with eminent artists, including Isaac Stern, Joseph Fuchs, Leonard Rose, Glenn Dicterow. Nathaniel Rosen, and Mark Gould. Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Bishop has won numerous prizes, among them, the rarely-given "Best Accompanist Award" which he received at the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow in 1990. lie has studied with Nancy Bricard, John Crown, and Bernardo Segall at the University of Southern California, and with Earle Voorhies at Cal State, Fullerton. At Juilliard, he studied piano with Martin Canin and accompanying with Samuel Sanders. Mr, Bishop resides in New York Ciry, where he also teaches and coaches. IK-HWAN BAE, a Korean-born violin prodigy, studied with Ivan Galatmian at Juilliard. In 1985, he won the gold medal at the Queen Elisabeth Competition and received the Solo Recitalist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1976. Besides appearances as a recitalist in New York. Europe, and Korea, Mr. Rae performs in many festivals, including the Casals in Puerto Rico, the Amsterdam Kamermuziekfestival in the Netherlands, Stavelot in Belgium, Gotland in Sweden, Kuhmo in Finland, and Sitka in Alaska. An artistic director of Bargemusic until 1995, Mr. Bae is now co-director of the Pusan Ibach Inrernarional Chamber Music Festival in Korea. Ik-Hwan Bae currently teaches violin at the Manhattan School of Music and will be a jury member of the Munich ARD competition in Germany next year. He records with RCA, ECM, Delos, Koch and Phonic Records. JENS NYGAARD is one of New York's most respected musicians, an honor earned for many years of first-class performances in both the standard and rarely-performed repertoire. Largely self-taught, he brings to his work experience in virtually all types of music, uncommon Technical facility, and a uniquely fresh view of every work he performs. A Juilliard graduate in piano, he counts the mentorship of his parents and Katherine Bacon, as well as the writings of Sir Donald Francis Tovey as major influences in bis work. The Jupiter Symphony founded in 1979 by Jens Nygaard is a flexible-sized ensemble of outstanding young musicians devoted to fresh performances of innovative programs VIOLINS: Yoon Mi Im, Sophie Arbuckle, Patrisa Tomassini.
