This morning, we hear from two influential women in Kansas and Missouri about Ginsburg's death and legacy. Next hour, we'll hear from District 3 Kansas State Representative Monica Mornan about Ginsburg's legacy and how she will remember the late Supreme Court justice. This hour, Executive Director of Southwest Missouri Democrats Christa Stark about how she will remember Ginsburg. I spoke with Christa on Saturday morning. Christa Stark, Executive Director of the Southwest Missouri Democrats. She joins us this morning on morning edition. Christa, I want to thank you for your time this morning. And when you heard the news of the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg on on late Friday afternoon, Friday evening, where were you and what were some of the first thoughts that were passing through your mind? I was actually in my home office preparing for a voter registration sound bank training that
we were going to have later in the week. When I heard the news, I had just that novel look all with several fellow Democrats from across the state of Missouri as my husband, Kenan, to bring me his phone and let me know that he had some sad news that he needed to share with me and that it might be news that the folks that I was in my family were still need to know as well. I would say that it was a pretty crushing blow. Many of us wanted to believe that the notorious RBG was known forever. But as we know, that is not the case of human and it was it was crushing news. And of course, there's been an outpouring of post on social media, various remembrances across our culture and society. And I was wondering what
will be some of the some of the things that when you think of her and you think of her legacy and her life and what she stood for, that you're going to remember. For women, in the political sphere, Ruth Taylor Ginsburg represents very important ideals. Ruth Taylor Ginsburg and her life work represents something very very important for the women of our country and for all those that believe that women should have people right with men in our society. There are those of us that know every detail of RBG's story and within the right and the responsibilities that we know would perhaps still today not be restored on women in our country without Ruth Taylor Ginsburg
pushing for legislation that gave us right. And we also know that her work is not finished because in America, we still do not have the equal rights amendment ratified in our United States Constitution. And Justice Timber and Justice Scalia always agreed that women are not guaranteed any constitutional rights in our constitution aside from the right to vote, which is the right to demand that grant. We have a past work of laws that have been adjudicated and propped them as your lower courts that give women certain rights of equality with men and other sectors. But those things aside from our infringement in our right to vote are not usually given to women in the United States Constitution. So, she's been served worked for entire life for equality for the citizens of our country. And now, in her passing,
that work is going to have to be carried on by other women and men that care about pressing forward and making sure that we have a quality in our country. Christus Stark is the executive director of the Southwest Missouri Democrats. I want to thank you for some of your time. Speaking about the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Thank you. Thank you for letting us speak for this important project.
