Beachwood is a beautiful suburb of Cleveland Ohio. The Beechwood city school district serves approximately fifteen hundred students Beechwood combines the best of a suburban community with big city services to create an excellent location for businesses residents and visitors. There is a partnership which is often referred to as the golden triangle between the city of Detroit and the future Chamber of Commerce and the should City School District and the recognition and accurate commission exists that states that the health of each of those is inextricably linked to the other two. There's many things to love about the city of Detroit the residents the business community the schools which were most proud and just the general atmosphere that prevails throughout the city. We're going to make sure that if companies locate the beach as new families are moving here to come together for a common goal and that's really just to promote the fair in our businesses we have. We're only one of three teenagers in the entire state that has sat in one of 54 and in the country of our size.
Through the chain that I went through between the second grade like I graduated and when I got married and we had kids we decided that we wanted to move to Beechwood because what is the best school system is like a private school I had a great experience there and I wanted my children to the other. The Beechwood city school district consists of five highly rated schools beginning with the Fairmont Early Childhood Center with preschool and pre-kindergarten Bryden elementary school as first students in kindergarten through second grade hilltop elementary school serves grades third through fifth Beechwood middle school oversees sixth through eighth grade and Beechwood high school hosts 9th through 12th grade. We have guidance counselors from elementary to high school we have librarians elementary to high school we offer a number of AP courses we give our store all kinds of opportunities that in many areas those students don't. I just think that I was given a better opportunity to be in a smaller class size to be able
to stand out and really do a good job and school. Beechwood offers a variety of programs and services that fuel academic success for all of our students ranging from gifted to those with special needs. I saw the school from a totally different aspect for many years to see how it works as a parent. I have. Been fortunate to have children on all ends of the spectrum I have a child has been in special needs program throughout her education here at Beechwood. I have a child that was involved the gifted program and I have two children that were typical children and all of them we've had excellent opportunities. When the variances. In 1986 the Beechwood Board of Education and the school system thought it would be a great idea to pilot a preschool program all of our teachers our lead teachers are certified with four year college degrees or more. Our assistants also hold an assistant aid license through the state of Ohio.
My son who's currently here has some speech issues and so he gets speech therapy and you know is just doing it. With the program that's in place. We enhance that curriculum with. The Munich awareness literacy language piece. Every day which is a beach with city schools idea from pre-K through fifth grade. Yeah. I think I'm. Proud of that. With writing. Is how it is run on an individualized basis that we service our children based on what they need and if support services need to be put in place for someone or some kids is excelling and needs more. We're there and we know them. We service our third fourth and fifth grade students here with a little school program or we pay special attention to is our reading a literacy program we have a reading specialist on staff supports or we teach provides a pension for students mottoes instruction for teachers. The Scholars Program. They're over five years. We're trying to do is to change the
image of the model of success at our meetings. We teach the kids about behavior we teach them what it takes to be successful. Guys it's taught me that I can do more. Like you. We began with 20 students at hilltops the day we have over 70 students the entire program. We have an advisory program where every teacher in this building is assigned about 12 students to be their mentor and their advisor to see how they're doing on progress and to make sure that they're making their academic and social goals happen. Our sixth grade students are exposed to various world languages and cultures through an extensive six week study that progresses to an immersion model beginning in the seventh grade and continues through high school reach what it offers. An opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing students to be fully trained or partially to different classes. And I can go out to those classes with them and interpret for them. One of the great things about Beechwood high school is that we are small. We have about 50 students
and we're small enough to really value every individual student for who they are. But at the same time unlike a lot of other small schools we have just a huge array of opportunities for kids to take advantage of high school participates in a consortium of those programs. We have a marketing program a coronary arts program hospitality and an early childhood education program. Our arts program actually runs a restaurant right here it's called the B3. It's a student run restaurant led by an executive chef school offers a wide range in our program of studies with a large number of advanced placement courses and extensive offering of honors courses and various specialty courses. We're very lucky to have a dedicated college counselor counselor who's an expert in the college application process selection and application process as well as the financial aid process.
Many districts do not have a technology lab for small children but we do. And then a program program. Delivered through language so the. Right. Spelling. Program starts fourth grade. They are identified through cognitive test an eye. Test.
The biggest thing that I like to see is that this. Program. Worth money center to hold our eco friendly showcase 60 person unders going to be here exhibiting how they're going green and promoting their products to the community so we can marry how there are green options.
We embrace concepts such as the green initiative where we had a group of students who went out and partnered with community businesses hosted an eco friendly showcase and in the process raised close to one hundred fifty thousand dollars to remodel a room of the high school the cool thing about this classroom from a student's perspective is that when we are in here we are in a real business where we are treated as adults. We are asked certain unions they're asked to voice our concerns. Everything that we everything that we have done with the past guys have done is all done by the state. We're learning about going green the ozone layer is all the different animals things like that like streams rivers our ecology club fire mental club has started it grassroots initiated recycling program here at Beechwood middle school this year.
The Beechwood school district's mission statement is to develop intellectual entrepreneurs with a social conscience and I think that that the spirit of that mission statement really is imbued across our curriculum across all of our schools. We want someone who really problem solves for themselves who's an entrepreneur in terms of how they feel. And we want that to be coupled with a sense of commitment to the greater community whether that's our beetroot community or a global community and student council president get the one year term to actually fit with the board at the Board of Education meetings give input if there's input to be given and report on what's going on at the high school. It was 11th grade in Beecher high school when I took a class with Mr. Danica Mr. Alexander. I think it was web development 1 0 1 8 CML and then it really got me interested in the whole idea of the Internet what the NRA can do. We know that we do an excellent job of educating our students many of whom by nine years of excellent ratings by the state. I want them to feel good that they can succeed and that
school is a good place for them. I didn't choose to send my kids anywhere. Yes. Weren't you. Thanks. For more information about the Beechwood city schools please visit Beechwood schools dot org.
